    Oooohhh.... I sure will!

    not too shabby

Well... that would be a regular Earthcruiser... ;) I wish they put their expertise at making a more lightweight option. The current offering focuses on multiple weeks of autonomy. I feel like a quality build with more than a week but less than two in autonomy is missing from their lineup...

    not too shabby

You can't compare an Alaskan with an Earthcruiser. the build quality and finish isn't in the same league. Now if we only could get a 1 ton toyota truck and not a domestic one, I'd be a happy customer.

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

Exactly that's why I don't. I'm really interested in the "per mile" cost really.

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

Didn'T aim tyo make you feel icky! ;) It's just That when planning a long expedition like this, estimating the running cost of it before hand and planning to have that reserve in cash is a factor. I'm not retired yet but I don't want to wait (and roll the dice) to do the stuff I want to. But I...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

Interesting. Honestly I had figured (and accepted) depreciation as the cost of owning the hardware to do the trip. But i saw a few earthcruisers selling for close to 250k after less than 80k miles which looks like it depreciates slower? I know big RVs depreciate faster than bitcoin, but the exp...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

Interesting feedback from all of you, thank you! If anyone has more detailed book keeping data I'd be very happy to hear about it. I understand those large rough terrain RV's are for the more weatlhy crowd and that operating cost might be somewhat "trivial" to some of them but I like to make...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

Interesting! I was asking because I am in the financial planning phase of a long trip in america and I was evaluating the financial needs of operating the truck for a year or two. Buying it isn't that troublesome. I see it as buying a cottage on wheels and I can afford it, But between 3 and 7%...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

Hi everyone! Been lurking a lot around here and I see many dicussing the price tag on those types of rigs but never the operating costs. I know fuel is the biggest one, obviously, but I'm wondering about maintenance on the road, basic oil/lube/filters, etc. Anyone has a ressource/link/thread...

    Fiberglass truck camper build

That's 100% my plan. They just don't build any shells (either Maranda or spaceKap) with a big enough overhang to sleep in. Do you have a floor plan sketched out? Do you plan on taking the truck bed off and replacing it with a (potentially) lighter and roomier custom bed? Very excited to see...

Battleship Jones: 2015 Tacoma DCLB Build Thread

That's a bad engineer. while I have 0 experience actually milling and cutting in the shop, I sure can visualize it and even virtually fab it before sending it to the shop floor. But it is a common thing. We learn to do hard math and loose sight of the easier solutions in the process.

Battleship Jones: 2015 Tacoma DCLB Build Thread

    that's a misconception and a half... Most engineer don't.

Expedition Vehicles: ridiculously overpriced or not

The fact that you don't see why you would do it doesn't mean it's not worth it (man hours, RD, etc). Getting things smaller and fitting them in tight spaces never has been cheap in any industry. I'm not saying they are worth every penny, just that your taste or financial disposition doesn't...

Market for $80k complete truck and camper - mini earthroamer?

I see the whole thing is maintained in place by the original tie down spot? Is this enough for some fire service road and corrugated roads? Any issues there? I was thinking the same-ish setup but much much less luxiourious and lighter and the tie downs had me wondering...
