Work Overlanding USA (Blue Ridge Parkway)

Hey there, thank you for the warm welcome. Just great people, scenery, and so much to do! Enjoy your time up here, and have a Merry Christmas. If you know where "The Cascades" is off of the Parkway, North of Deep Gap, we aren't far from there. Thank you again. Mike

Well it's been a while since finishing up this project. We ended up buying another house while working here in WNC and relocated from WV to the area just a few months ago. I went to work for a custom home builder here in Blowing Rock. I also just purchased a solid, low mileage 7.3idi truck and...

We had a nice visit to Mt. Airy (Mayberry), North Carolina this past weekend. Even spotted Barney with 2 elderly suspects in the back.

No I do not, I work for Johnson, Mirmirran, and Thompson. Lexington, if I recall did the last batch of demolitions about 4 years ago. NPS awarded this batch to another Contractor. I work for neither the actual Contractor or the NPS. I am the projects independent Construction Manager.

    Michelin XC-4 7.50-16s Performance

It is an F-250, I could run a much larger tire. It had 35x 12.50s on it at one time, but that's not my thing anymore. Looking for just enough performance, and plenty of clearance. I think the 7.50-16s will be a decent choice. Thanks for the feedback?.

Here is link to a good article, covers more than what you are looking for but just showed up in my Google feed. The Cascade Falls trail is another that I did and recommend for a quick hike. http://appvoices.org/2017/10/11/treasures-of-the-parkway/

I'm really a novice in this area but there is no shortage of great hiking opportunities. I am not tent camping right now and I am not familiar with any "open" campgrounds on the Parkway at this time. I would look to adjacent National Forests and NC State Parks where camping is readily available...

Work Overlanding USA (Blue Ridge Parkway)

Made an amazing loop Sunday during perfect weather. Looking forward to going back to explore the area a lot more (trout fishing). Left the place here in Blowing Rock and immediately dropped off the mountain onto Globe Road, followed down the infamous no pedal MB route to 90, making a right here...

Camp Catawba, gone. Site restoration in progress. Went for a ride this evening to view a property in Creston, NC (personal business). What an amazing view of "The Peak" 5000ft. Yesterday evenings ride put us at Linn Cove Viaduct in a minor snow squall.

    Big custom camper sightings

Spotted this Iveco on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock, NC. Didn't see any movement inside so I didn't stop to chat. Anyone from here? Nice rig.

Spotted this Iveco resting at an overlook near Blowing Rock, NC this morning. I would have stopped to chat but didn't see any movement. Was this anyone involved in this site? Also found a decent shed on the mountain near Cascade Falls. That time of year!!

Anyone using Cooper AT3 XLT tires?

Quick pic and first impressions; arrived at Mr. Tire in Boone, NC and the crew quickly went to work. After an hour or so I received the keys and hit highway 321 for a few miles. Tires look great, are very quiet and handling is spectacular. Nothing off- road yet but I'm sure it will only be a...

Actually all of the sites we are demolishing are on Federal lands, and more or less in view from the Parkway. We do notify and work with adjacent property owners frequently due to access and right of way concerns. Most of the sites are not directly accessible from the Parkway but from state or...
