Gravity pulling on the "Magnet" is only probable issue, but then I think the shoe return springs will oppose any application of the brakes.
I say go for it, but protect the wires leaving the backing plate, mounting them upright seems to put the wires further out of harms way.
FYI
I will add my 2 bits, I'm currently setting up a 17' casita (FG) that is actually a 14' trailer with a tongue to tow it that they add to the OAL to get 17'. 6" lift and a Tungus that can retract as well as extend. Adding independent park brakes on each wheel will aid in spinning it on tight...
As someone who works in the repair industry and does engine swaps for a hobby when I find these nuggets out I tend to share the info with only a few so the publication of this scares me, I'm always afraid the engineers are going to find out and change it up and ruin it for us!
But then I bet...
I've been reading these type of posts for some but haven't been able to zero in on a suitable unit for off and on road nav.
I will be traveling whet there is no cell service, so will need to have maps all loaded from base. (Home or some distant Internet cafe).
Plus it will need to new able to be...
I am sure you will get loads of advice on here and over on mud so buckle up! MPG isn't an 80's strong suit, not sure if less rpm from more gears would help....(engine would move the engine way out of its optimum torque range)....plus there is a bunch of gear train loss in the drivetrain.
(I am...
Why ask why the OE does these things......but actually the LT1 head was used for fuel consumption and torque at lower rpm reasons is my guess as the L31 was the last version of old 5.7 in the trucks and had more oomph than earlier ones, good cheap torque fora swap.
By the way, that L31 is not TBI, it throttle body injected, (pic in above post) but is multi- point. That engine has the LT1 heads too.
Maybe the best non-LT1 and non LS engine to swap.
Enjoy.
1986 trooper turbo diesel
Ok a couple of pics of my turbo diesel trooper, sorry I don't take many. I drive it daily and every where, it is my go-to rig for most my adventures that don't require more than a few miles at speeds over 70mph.
