    1988 XJ Pioneer “Rock Bottom”

My first Cherokee was an '88. It has a D30 front axle (3.05 gears), D35 rear axle, AW-4 transmission, NP-235 transfer case (2.72 gears), and 4.0 straight 6 with Renix fuel injection. One trick I remember on the AC was to rewire the relay controlling it. By swapping pins in the socket, the...

    Post Pic's of your Jeep

This is my ideal Overlander. Nimble, well equipped, and using the backpacking philosophy of only taking what you need.

    GPS recommendations for seniors

I will help him set something up but thanks for the offer. I'm just trying to find an easy to use solution. I created myself a clean Gaia account (I already subscribe) and am starting to lean that way. The free account allows the Gaia base maps, the topo maps, and aerial maps, which is all he...

    GPS recommendations for seniors

He doesn’t use a smart phone. I was looking at an android tablet with the Garmin Explore app. Looks like topo maps are easy to select and download. What he would really like is google maps with 7.5’ topo maps. Except off-line downloads aren’t really straight forward.

    GPS recommendations for seniors

I have a friend in his mid 70’s who likes to explore the western deserts of Utah. He wants something that shows 7.5’ topo maps and will track his position. He tried using a Garmin Overlander but found it too confusing to use. Are there any recommendations for a GPS that is easy to use for those...

    TJ bumper options

I have an Olympic 4x4 rear tube bumper on my YJ that is tucked up nicely. It includes a hitch that can be used with a receiver ring for recovery. Not sure if this is still readily available. Arb makes another front bumper that is not quite as massive, which you may like better than the deluxe...

2-Door JK JeepKitchen - AT Chaser - Globetrotter - National Luna build thread

Thanks for documenting your 2 door build. I have a YJ but your build gives me some good ideas on what works.

    Captain Texas Anvil JKU build

On your body bolt problem, how about putting a helicoil in the nut? That would prevent someone from cutting a hole in the floor and welding in a new nut.

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

If you didn’t attach the molle panels to the door, what about one that secured to the roll bar just behind it? Tools and other gear could be secured on it and the door would make them readily accessible.

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

I actually have been working on something like this. Contacted a vendor the other day for some CAD files. This is in addition to a project I’m working with MattJ on. There are several vendors of aluminum extrusions. It’s used for everything from machine frames and guards to racks and tables.

2018 JLUR - First "expedition" in the new rig

For all those curious how car makers come up with tow ratings, here’s an older article that tells how they do it. http://www.trucktrend.com/news/163-0910-truck-towing-capacity/

    Jeep w/ which non-stock wheels

Which Jeep are you talking about? Jeep used 3 different hole patterns depending on which model/year you’re talking about. None are interchangeable with a Tacoma. There’s a couple like that which will fit a TJ/YJ, which has a 5 X 4.5” bolt pattern. JK has a 5 X 5” pattern.

Sorry to bring up Indian Jeeps again but it looks like the Mahindra jeeps are coming to the US. Maybe they’ll bring some of the more desirable models, although not sure how they’re meeting US regulations. http://www.roxoroffroad.com Looks like it’s not street legal and is being sold as a UTV.

    SilicaRich's Overland TJ Rubicon Build

I am curios as to why you've settled on the OM617? Seems to me a VW PD has at least as much power. With the VW, there are several companies that make adapters, engine mount parts, and electronics to easily integrate it into your TJ. I would think parts wold be easier to get with a newer engine...

New Custom Grille Concept: Would you buy THIS?

I’d also be wary of copyright violations. Jeep has a trademark on their 7 slot grill.
