    I'm TIRED of this sit!

I have a recommendation: find a chair that you don't pack away. Mine lives diagonally behind the driver seat, always at the ready. Instead of trying to find the best bad chair, get something comfortable and make a place for it.

2nd Gen Sequoia as offroad rig and tow platform

Add lift and armor to the truck you already have, unless you just have too much money.

Someone explain why GAIA gets so much love

This is a slightly confusing post. First you mention Google Maps, then say you cannot guarantee connectivity. Everything you can do on the Gaia web site can also be done from the app. Your complaints are largely correct though. It is definitely not the most user-friendly mapping system out...

Solar panel as a wind deflector

I have to laugh at how everybody that says not to has never tried it. It works great! It considerably reduces wind noise, or at least it did for my build. I ran this setup for a few years. Everybody worries about it getting damaged, but I never had any issues. The FJ is gone, but the panel...

Financing for a new van? Yikes

With low interest rates and a slower rate of inflation, the 2010s was a great time to use credit. Lots of people were able to finance new vehicles, in effect only paying any interest during the first year, and having made money off the loan at the end of 5 years. Yes, the vehicle is a...

Propane Tanks: Minimum Distance from Furnace/Boiler?

It is always good to consider these things, but you truly don't have much to worry about. On an outdoor grill, it sits just inches below the flame. On a camp stove... Short of placing the tank directly in fire, you're probably fine.

    Traction Board Recommendations

I love the GoTreads. They have been especially great in snow - not for me, but for other motorists unprepared for travel in such conditions. Our last good snow, I rode around with a shovel and the GoTreads rescuing random strangers...and testing out the product in the process. They also work...

    Camp Table

I have one of these REI tables that I tried before making space for a full 6' plastic folding table. Coleman also makes a version that's more affordable, but not quite as durable. A friend of mine carries 2-3 of these tables in lieu of a single large table. My current configuration has the...

    ATV battery tenders

These days, I would use something like this solar panel from Renogy. It depends on what the situation is like for your garage/storage area as to whether getting the panel in good sun is more or less trouble than plugging something in. The advantage is, this is portable and can go with you on...

Pop-up versus hard-side height and fuel economy survey

Tires can make as much of a difference as a tent. 2007 FJ Cruiser 20 mpg highway before gear & soft-sided RTT; 18 mpg after. Went to load range E tires after the Cs wore down. Lost 2 more mpg. 2006 GX 470 20 mpg highway before gear, E-rated MTs, and soft-sided RTT; 15 mpg after.

Is the roof tent trend over?

I know I definitely want to simplify and speed up my camp setup. Various injuries are bothering me more and more as I get older. Climbing around in door sills and standing on tires to install rain fly props and reinstall the tent cover has gotten tiresome. I've not get decided if my next move...

Is the roof tent trend over?

Now that most of the world has gotten back to living like they were pre-2020, things are changing. Since people can again go to plays, concerts, movies, and church, there's a lot of people who haven't gotten back to the outdoor activities. With that in mind, tents probably did reach market...

    45k - Sportsmobile

The problem is, as you're waiting for prices to come down, the mileage, age, and scarcity of these things is going up, along with inflation pulling 15%+ out of the value of a dollar. I think you might be chasing your tail here. $60,000 is the new $45,000.
