XPEDBC - Could you cross post or share your article over in the Family Adventure Planning section? Lots of people there who would benefit from your tips...
I built something like this and it seems to work pretty well. My third brake light is covered by the Rooftop Tent and the bikes make the side tail lights less obvious. I attached an 8" red LED bar to a piece of pipe that was just wide enough to span the supports on the bike rack (a hanging...
This is the one that we use as well. It served well for 3 months on the road then another 4 months at home while we waited for our household goods to catch up. The bottoms are pretty thick and no nonstick coating. There is only one handle and it can be a bit finicky to attach though it became...
Where are you planning to go? For how long? You've got 90% of the stuff that you need - pack up your gear, fill up with food and fuel, and go explore.

Good luck, the mesh is pretty tough to sew. You'll want to use one of the small needles and fine thread with really small stitches. Don't pull it too tight or the seam will pucker up along the tear.
My field repair kit for fabric stuff is

Congratulations on taking the plunge and traveling with your daughter, she'll have great memories of that trip. We went from Florida to Alaska with our 4 year old son last year, your tips are spot on, especially the suggestion to find a playground or park. He is an only child and we could tell...

I started with a 12v "150 PSI" compressor from Harbor Freight. It had clips for the battery and a fairly long coiled hose. Early on it cooked the thermal safety switch, even when it cooled off, it wouldn't reset. I bypassed that and it lasted for several years of once a month weekend trips...
I don't know that I would favor a RTT for long term beach camping. Winds make RTT camping pretty painful - the tent fly flaps constantly and the RTT being so high up turns it into a sail that rocks the whole truck. We haven't used our annex much, but I imagine that it would get tossed around...
The DC Tacoma's backseat is not all that big when it comes time to put car seats back there. I'm 6' tall and can't put the car seat (either backwards or forward facing) behind me and still give our son legroom in his car seat. Riding in the passenger seat with him behind me means that my knees...
