Finally joined the 1/4 ton club.

Good deal! As far as extending the tongue buy them stock and take the old one to a machine shop and have them mill it for you. Then figure the best length for you. Cut and weld on the hitch you want to use. Just my $.02 Good luck with the new project

    GlobalJet's attempt at a M416 Rebuild

Great build Do you plan on running those wires though a hose or at least have grommets in the holes If not when it rubs through the insulation you going to have all kinds of problems Just trying to help hope it helps

    Linked vs Braided safety chains

My dad has safety cables on his Bantom they seem to work ok I chose to go with 1 long chain that connects to my 416 in the 2 stock mounts then to the jeep in 2 spots My thinking is if I get in a bind I have a few feet of extra chain Just my $.02

    Tounge length?

Pretty much what everyone's said be able to jack knife it Although on the other side I didn't want it so long it follow outside the of the tow vehicle trac while turning sharp. When I crank it hard and just miss a rock with my rear tire, the trailer misses it by about 3" Just my $.02

    Spare tire carrier

That is very true. I have a 33 on the back of my 416 which makes my tongue weight about 20 pounds. It runs smooth when empty but I do have to pay attention when loading the trailer. Without enough tongue weight it will buck and kick I used a TJ tire mount but I don't have a tailgate
