Bottom line up front: If you’re looking for a compact battery to run a fridge and charge devices for 2+ days without marrying a dual battery system to one vehicle the PLB40 is for you. Add a solar panel and some cable and you can run it as long as you care to.
Negatives: Cost, won’t run an...
I haven’t had this experience at all on washboard but I always air down unless it’s a short distance. To be honest aired down the stock suspension did fine until you hit a chuck hole at 40mph.
This has not been my experience with my Thuren coils but that could very well be the difference...
2019+ 2500/3500 trucks with the 6.4 Hemi are equipped with the 8HP75 and it is fabulous. Quite frankly the transmission and interior makes Ram stand out for a gasoline powered V8 truck.
Dual battery systems have their place but for my use it would’ve limited me to keeping the fridge in one vehicle. Now I can run it in our Outback or Ram 2500. I’ll be using it quite a bit this spring and summer. I figure with a 100w solar panel I could keep the PLB40 charged while in camp.
I have to admit I could overlook the size of the Gladiator if it had the 6.4 in it. The 6.4/8 speed in a 7000 pound 2500 is a beast. I can only imagine how much more awesome it would be in a 5000 pound Gladiator.
Thuren all the way. With Fox 2.0 shocks you’ll be well under $3k. Kings are awesome but overkill for what you describe. Use the left over $$ for on board air. Airing down works wonders.
I’m buying a Dometic PLB40 soon. I’ve tried to make the math work on DIY but it doesn’t pencil out for my uses. My requirements are:
Portable
Able to be charged at a low enough rate to use the 12v port in most vehicles
Safe to keep in the passenger compartment
Compatible with solar charging...
This may sound crazy but I wish a manufacturer offered a midsize truck with a crew cab that had the leg room of a full size. I could manage that with a canopy. With a 5 foot bed it wouldn’t be any longer than a double cab 6 foot bed Tacoma. Maybe the new Dakota will have a legit crew cab. The...
I strongly considered a Gladiator before I bought my 2500. I liked it a lot, but that the end of the day it was too limiting for us. I’m not a rock crawler and most of my off road adventures are on old forest roads that have turned into trails from neglect. Even with a long bed crew cab it’s...
