    Yaesu FTM-300DR powering down

Have you brought the firmware up to date? I had a problem with a similar issue. I eventually had to replace the head unit due to some bad screen pixels, by sending the head unit to Yaesu in Cypress, CA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

05 LR3 Yaw rate issue no faults

I was having the DSC engage on curves for awhile and it turned out to be a combination of a rear wheel bearing and worn control arms. Replacing my right rear wheel bearing stopped the DSC engaging on left turns at normal speeds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Another antenna location question…

Diamond makes a great mount that attaches to upper tailgate. I have two on my LR3. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    APRS??

True that…I was thinking of hand held radios like Garmin’s Rhino. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    APRS??

That will be up to the GMRS manufacturers I believe. Motorola was the big push for it, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Garmin does something with it. But I doubt that it will be as robust as true APRS, due to antenna limitations of FRS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    APRS??

APRS can be a very helpful tool off-roading, but it takes a thorough understanding of how it works. Certain handheld radios, such as the Yaesu Ft-5 and a few others from Yaesu can transmit and receive APRS packets. Kenwood also makes one, and there are some DMR radios that will send APRS...

GMRS Antenna Wire Length and Position Question

Hi Nathan, No problem with coiling the excess wire as they factor that into the antenna design. In your case the body of the car becomes both the ground plane and counterpoise. If you really want to boost that radio in the future, you can always get a 36-38” antenna that gives half wave for...

LR3 - Control Arm and Bushing Replacement

Depending on how worn the bushings and control arms are, you may be forced to replace them as the new bushings might not seat properly in the worn control arm. I have experienced this a few times so if doing yourself, you may want to have ready access to replacements. Sent from my iPhone using...

Finally dipped a toe into GMRS

As far as I know, the FCC does not have a regulation that designates a radio as Part 97. Ham's, operating within the designated frequencies for Amateur Radio, can operate any type of radio in those designated frequencies, as long as it complies with Part 15 (Emissions) following the operating...

Finally dipped a toe into GMRS

The FTM 300D isn’t type certified for GMRS so it’s technically illegal to operate that radio in the GMRS frequencies. Better to get a Midland, or just go ahead and take the Technician Ham test. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

need some help deciding on a 2m/70cm radio

Just remember, that radio isn’t legal to transmit on GMRS/FRS frequencies, although you can listen all you want. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

need some help deciding on a 2m/70cm radio

You can’t go wrong with the Yaesu FTM-400 or the new FTM-300 radios. Both offer APRS on the B side of the radio and offer digital outputs if needed. Pretty easy to program. The 300 is brand new and has a few minor bugs, some of which were cured with a recent firmware update. Most important is...
