    Sand Rover?

Oh man I love PI and the rest of Lookout. I spend most of May and part of June each year based out of Beaufort specifically for photographing on and around CALO. Most of my time is spent running around to n my skiff over at Shackleford Banks in the south end of the park, but I always squeeze in...

    Which one?

Yes this is now officially ridiculous. Supposedly the work done by Denver mechanic is warrantied. If they live up to their word, the diff and bushing should be covered by them. The dealer should cover the bearing as part of the power train warranty. Ugh. We shall see. I have the whole month of...

Now it’s getting silly. Made it back to Bozeman. Took it to the local Indy Land Rover shop. After all that, the mechanic in Denver busted the seal on the differential AND my rear bushing while trying to get the axel in place. Result? I now have a leaking new rear diff and broken (not worn)...

Update: so the rear differential was changed today, along with diff and transfercase fluids. Noise still persists. When the truck has been sitting and driveline is cooled down, it’s barely noticeable. Once it has been driven, it really starts to get loud. Noise begins at around 5mph. It does...

    Which one?

Spent all day in the shop today and back in a hotel for another night. The dealership and associated mechanics were 100% convinced that the problem was with the brakes - for some reason. All things considered, the problem seemed more differential than anything else. Chatting first thing this...

Order of Operations (What should I buy first?)

If you plan to pick up a D810 or D850, prepare to have your feelings hurt anytime your are shooting with less expensive glass. The extreme medium format sized resolution of these cameras basically means all "kit" lens are worthless, and even lenses such as the above suggested Tamron 150-600 will...

17 inch rims or doing some cutting on the wheel wells is definitely in my future. All of our other vehicles have 16 inch rims with 285 Cooper AT3s mounted on them (i love these things!), and all that meat just does wonders for really dumping the air when needed. Like you, I'm old school in the...

    Which one?

Thanks for all the information folks. I picked up a 2008 LR3 SE this weekend. Drove down to Denver to buy it. Made it to Casper Wyoming on the drive back to Montana only to find a wonderful whirring / grinding sound that is similar to the sound that worn rotors make - only, this has nothing to...

    Sand Rover?

Very cool. How far up are you guys? I spent most of my summers since I was a kid up in Carova - before it looked anything like it does now. I remember when bison used to roam the beach and you didn’t hit houses till the fire station! Very different place these days! My place is around MP 23. I...

    Sand Rover?

How well do these LR3s handle soft sand? Of course, driving in the sand is ALL about tire pressure and I run all my vehicles, even the excursion, at 15psi. At 15psi, I usually do not even need to engage 4 wheel with part time 4 wheel drive vehicles unless the beach gets really bad. The...

Even with VIN in hand, how are you able to dig up the HD info?

    Which one?

thanks! I have been eyeing the Seattle market, but pretty few and far between save for the 2005 and 2006 models - at least on CarGurus. Most everything there seems to be LR4 - guess they don't want to be seen slumming

Great info! Thanks so much. How much combined weight were you towing? I have a 24’ skiff I tow now when at the coast. All said and done, maybe 4K lbs (boat motor trailer). I know the truck is rated for 7700lbs but numbers and reality are not always in line!

I do have another question that is a bit off topic here: sand. How well do these things handle soft sand? Of course, driving in the sand is ALL about tire pressure and I run all my vehicles, even the excursion, at 15psi. At 15psi, I usually do not even need to engage 4 wheel with part time 4...

    Which one?

Thanks for all of that information Ray. The cheaper one seemed like the obvious choice here - but going into it knowing the LCAs needed work and new tires were necessary means an additional $3k right off the bat - which puts me right back at the price of the first one. So, I’m that sense these...
