Just to make it easier on me, I will direct you to a Ford Excursion website forum where I am chronicling the changes and modifications to my Excursion. It is a long thread and it has extensive pictures. I posted about the recovvery gear there, also, but they are not really into expedition style...
Andrew-
Thanks for the critique!.
I see I need to let you guys know what the truck is for. First off, it is not a recreational off road vehicle or bogger the way most folks see it. I try my absolute best to stay away from deep mud, soft dirt, and large rocks. That is what makes it so...
Yeah, the Excursion is a cave with wheels. Tons of room.
It would be nice to have drawers, but that would make removing the rear seat a major pain. I like to keep it flexible.
No, I did not. That is a good idea, though. Probably 200 to 250 lbs. I would guess.
Glad you like it. I have a...
Here is almost all of the recovery gear I have so far. In the pic below it is packed and ready to put in the truck.
A Hi-lift Jack. Not much more to be said.
Bag one: Hi-Lift off road kit with a Lift Mate Accessory and spares kit
Bag two: ARB tire repair kit, two Expedition...
First off, thanks to all that have answered questions here and helped me on my journey to make this happen.
I have been trying for several months to get my Excursion ready for self recovery. I installed Buckstop bumpers front and rear, with a Warn 16.5ti winch. I have now gotten most of the...
Glad it worked out for you. that is a real nice Ex. I can't wait to get going camping this year. I'm jealous of all that area you have out ther to roam. You lucky dog!!
One thing I would like to point out. You are buying tires, and you may be tempted to get the 'D' load range to save a...
I like Estwing. No, I love them. But the axe was too short for me. I wish it had another 5 inches on the handle. Everything else is perfect. I hav their hatchet. The best araound for wood, IMO. The SOG tomahawk is dead useful too.
Um let's see. You have a ka-bar, a gerber hatchet, and a wave. You don't get much more than that.
Gerber axe, a SOG tomahawk could replace your hatchet, and a Cold Steel spear point machete or SOG MC-02 18-Inch SOGfari Machete would round that up real good.
Federal Specifications RR-C-271D stipulate all the dimensions on rated shackles that meet their specs. So it is pretty much a industry standard for rated stuff.
I have noticed around the web that there seems to be some confusion among us about what a rated shackle is really rated for. I just thought that I'd post some info on the subject for reference.
A rated shackle will have the working load limit (WLL)stamped or raised on the body of the shackle...
Actually, the size is the diameter of the shackle metal in the bow section. I refer you to the diagrams at:
7 ton WLL shackles from Mcmaster-Carr part #3663T44
http://www.mcmaster.com/#
The size of the pin on a 3/4" shackle is 7/8". A 5/8" shackle has a pin of 3/4"
I have a 2005 Excursion. Bought it used in 2005 with 19k on it.
I am a regular member in the Excursion forum at FTE. The Excursion is all we discuss.
First, the Excursion is a oddball son of the Superduty line. the frame of the Superduties is a two piece. there is the front clip section...
