    show me your flex

I had to wait till page 61, doesn't have lots of flex but with diff locks it doesn't need it so much. My Rugger has pretty good flex though!

    Advice on buying a 1986 HJ60...PLEASE!

It's difficult to advise on price, it all depends on how much they go for in your area and condition. If it has rust holes in the roof then there will be a lot more rust in there, very expensive to repair properly. If it drives well with few leaks, and steers well, then there is not much that...

    Moped travel NZ

Moped probably not a good idea, at the corner of upper queen street and west street (Auckland) there are backpackers vans for sale every Saturday morning. They usually have mattress and camping gear, and will be dirt cheap.

    Rack for HJ60 Hi-Roof

I'm using my own gutter mounts made out of a few bolts and a bit of angle iron, very beefy! I think it is unusual to see a 60 without a sunroof over here (NZ) though mostly they are JDM 61's here I guess, perhaps all 61's had sunroofs?

    Rack for HJ60 Hi-Roof

It might not suit you, but I have a shorter rack that ends just behind the drivers seat. It allows the use of the sunroof to see when branches are going to catch on the front, and creates less wind noise when the sunroof is open. Its still 6ft long...

    Carrying spares?

I have an old diesel toyota so I don't need to take any electrical spares like starters or alternator, can be started and runs fine without that stuff. I always have wheel bearings, gaskets - seals, radiator hoses & fan belt, plenty of fluids, oils, grease, water to keep it going in an...

    The Australian Perenties latest sales

There are a few of those for sale in NZ now too, if only I had a bigger garage and a lot of spare cash! The chassis are thicker and a lot wider at the back, The 6X6 ones seem to be all turbo & LT95.

    compressed natural gas

Over here in New Zealand we used to have a lot of CNG and LPG powered cars, the government even helped with the conversion cost for a while... Ive had a couple of LPG 4X4s, but now that there are cheap diesel 4X4s everywhere you see very few LPG cars with the exception of large older V8 powered...

Which Diesel for RTW w/ FJ47?

direct injection engines (12HT 1HD etc) inject the fuel directly into the combustion chamber, and most don't have glow plugs, it usually makes them slightly more efficient. In indirect injection engines the fuel is injected into a pre combustion chamber where the glow plug helps to ignite the...

Which Diesel for RTW w/ FJ47?

Yea I was thinking that it was gear driven like 12HT but no, it has a belt behind that plastic cover! The timing belt is quick and easy to change on both the HZ & HD, it might even be the same belt? So the timing belt and glow plugs are a bit of a backwards step from a 12HT, but it makes the...

Which Diesel for RTW w/ FJ47?

I'm not that keen on 1HZ, but have towed a trailer with a loaded troopie and it had no trouble cruising along the highway. You need to rev them a bit more than a 12HT, but they seem to be a bit quieter perhaps? 1HZ feels as happy at 3000rpm as a 12HT is at 2200rpm. I can't see any real downside...

Which Diesel for RTW w/ FJ47?

I'm a big fan of the 12HT so I'm a bit biased, I've had one for a few years and get a big grin on my face every time I drive it! You really need to try one to get an idea of what they are like, just looking at the HP number and comparing to say a 1HZ doesn't really tell you the true story...

Which Diesel for RTW w/ FJ47?

I think the ultimate engines are either the Toyota 12HT or 1HDT, both of these are pretty costly and probably difficult to get hold of, but they have great power, economy, reliability. The Nissan patrol / safari TD42 is pretty good too, Nissan FD33 & 35 are popular transplants in landrovers...
