I was a Boatswain's Mate in the Navy and have worked as a shipyard rigger so I have extensive experience when it comes to moving heavy stuff. For a hook to work properly(read safely) it must be moused (seized off) thereby nagating it's only advantage which is speed.

For a few bucks more you can have something a whole lot safer and more adaptable. I've said it before; I am very leery of any discount house/offshore fab'd gear that may be put under a heavy strain. My 2¢

Scooby, you may want to check out this item. http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=1869&deptid=1881 It has a bladder inside a neoprene skin; better then the somewhat expensive handmade mat around rocks sticks etc.... and much cheaper.

It all depends on what you want from a wave. These things work completely different then bodyboards or any "board" for that matter. Like I said in the original post; it's kind of like riding a bubble that wants to follow the fall line of the wave. The mat is downright sensual in use and is...
