The engine is accessed from BOTH the interior and the exterior, depending on which part you need access to. About 1/3 exterior and 2/3 interior. I have a large engine cover that lifts up and (at a pinch) can be removed. Oil level checking is done inside but filling outside, as it water etc...

That SLR drop-down deck looks remarkably like the one I had on Wothahellizat Mk1 15 years ago :) Note that mine did not need a leg, I don't know why theirs does. EDIT: It looks like the leg is a safety feature, maybe required for a commercial product.

Pre birth of a camper - No laughing!

I love roof hatches, got something similar in mine and never had problems (except the few times I've left it open on a fine night only to be woken up by rain on my feet :) ) I have a mate who added a hitch, but he was able to make it fold up for when he's not towing.

Max overhang is 60% of the wheel base OR about 12 feet, whichever is the shorter. In your case the 60% will count. So calc that first, once you know the max overhang point measure back to the cab, that's the max body length.

Yeah it is, thanks. I'm working on the kitchen fitout right now, when that's finished we can pretty much move in which will be good.

Very nice Scott, and good to see some more Aussie material. One day I'll get a shot of those Leichardt hoppers.

Yes I am following this thread, but TBH all the talk about drive lines and suspensions is not only above my pay grade but also is of little interest to me. I have a 40-year-old truck so it's SA, in general SA is preferred over IS in 4x4 circles for the reasons stated many times above. If I was...

I can't speak for the MAN-KAT 6x6 owners but for my ACCO's 1200x20 tyres (split rims) it's a simple procedure, albeit bloody had work. Jack wheel up, I have several 10-tonne bottle jacks, some short some long, depending on the surface and if the tyre is dead flat on the rim or not you may have...

I'm a day late and a dollar short with this very interesting thread, just told of it by another member. I'm slowly working through it but felt I should respond to a couple of posts starting at #612 (page 62). This is quite true, and if you are only interested in seeing the normal tourist sights...
