Grand Slam West (Moab) Cancelled - 2018

I posted this in the NAGCA forum and cross-posted it here, in case this was an event someone (like me) had been looking forward to. It's more an off-road event but adventuring people may have had it on their bucket lists like I did.

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Finally corrected the brakes. Did the akebono upgrade to the 99 WJ yesterday, followed up with parking brakes and new rear calipers today. The parking brake did not last ten minutes - got a clunk, a tinkle, then silence half a block after I exercised it to set it. So I guess I'll be paying...

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ Deset explorer/offroader

My wife has a 01 4.0 selec trac just like this now. I think for her I'll eventually just go with new calipers and keep it in shape. It's got no rust. Mine, OTOH... 4.7 and...sad...lots of rust. I didn't see it until I got under it, and next thing I know I have blooms in the wheel wells. I'll...

Actually...how does your wife feel about the idea of you taking her DD and building it? :coffeedrink:

Seeing My WJ in a New Light...and Some Questions for the Resident Pros

And don't allow the engine to overheat. The 4.7 has a tendency to drop valve seats into the cylinder if the head warms up enough to loosen them. That'll brick the engine real quick. Keep the oil changed and running cool and it'll give years of service. QuadraDrive is a decent all-around system...

Lola - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is sooooo close to what I want to do with my 99! I have a lot of work to do before that happens. I'm in the north so it's from the north too...which brings its share of reddish brown gremlins that I swear weren't there when I got it only two years ago. Keep up the posts...I wanna see...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Replaced the struts for the hood and liftgate. I didn't get to do the lift gate glass due to a crap left side hinge (won't let it open all the way) but at least I don't have to hold the hood up with my head anymore!! That alone is worth the price of the shocks :)

Trim clips on mine to fix the dreaded Used Car Doors. Nice and tight now!

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

I did the same thing to my wife's Jeep this weekend. No fancy parts, but due to Minnesota rust she's got new tie rods and damper, and also did the ball joints. I couldn't unscrew the rod ends from the sleeve. After 3 hours of heat and hammers and pb blaster, she got new sleeves too. Mine will...

Who will buy Jeep from FCA?

If I could scrape 33 bils together from the change in my couch, Jeep would be American-owned, and privately, at that ;) And they would ALL be solid axle!!! Edit: I think, because we have no control over who might end up owning the name, we might be better off leaving a bread crumb for future...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

This weekend I got the BAFX ODBII scanner and Torque Pro. Cleared the CEL and decided I'd really like to replace the MAP sensor..the cause of the illuminated sadface on my dash. Worked on cleaning up the new gas tank skid plate. Will mount whenever I can get that popped weld on it tacked back...

Who will buy Jeep from FCA?

If I had 33bil, I'd buy Jeep. It wouldn't take all that long to get the cash back and then I'd have both.

    ZJ vs WJ

I can't speak about anything else, but I like my WJs. We have a 4.0 with the 242 and a 4.7 with the 247. Both work and do what they're supposed to do, 16 and 18 years down the line, respectively. If you end up with the 4.7 engine in whatever you choose, keep your oil clean and do not allow it...
