DIY Pop-Up Truck Camper (Aluminum frame/sided)

Hey all - been watching and reading these threads for a long time. So much good information here! I started planning this pop-up truck camper build last fall, then completed it in late April to early July 2017. Learned a ton. I call it the 'Ultima Thule Camper' Sits beautifully on the...

Thanks for the early help! - my completed camper. Hey, thanks for the early help and advice on the camper. I asked a lot of questions. It helped out. I built mine late april - early july 2017. Sits beautifully on the truck, handles great on rough roads. Shell only (panelled, carpeted, all...

This looks great! It's coming along nicely. Love seeing the updates. What made you abandon the first roof you built?

What width of VHB 4991 tape did you use? was 46 yards enough? I have a line on reasonably priced 1/2" that I think I might use. Thanks mate - your posts are helping me out a ton with my build. Just cut all my aluminum framing this weekend, and hoping to get it welded up this week or next.

wow, looking great! I like the smoothness of the aluminum siding. What colour the siding is under the plastic wrap - can't quite tell? A couple of other questions if you have a minute. How did you deal with the radius window corners? did you weld material in there, or are the cutouts...

Nice! Looks like it's coming along great. Did you end up sloping the roof? I can't tell from the pictures. If so, how did you do it? behind the square tube along the long axis of the camper? I'm still trying to decide if i'll keep it flat like my existing wood framed camper.

Good info. Seems like a reasonable process and similar to how i'm planning to do it. One concern that i've been reading about is the potential for buckling if heat expands the siding. It seems like more of a problem on steel framed trailers with aluminum sheet (different expansion/contraction...

I think so. I am not planning on a substrate. I think your comment about the hard foam insulation and the interior paneling would be enough. Every trailer built with this siding around I walk up to and poke at the siding.. there is some give to it, but it doesn't seem too spongey. I am...

Hey Lindy74. Nice progress. I'm a couple months behind you on a very similar bid so it's cool to see how your doing it. What size tubing did you use, especially for the cab over section? looks like 1 x 4" ? I've been searching out what to use for the siding, and all of the filon I can find...
