Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

Three position switch, w/ Soft and Firm set, 2 is adjustable via a dial from 1 to 8. Went out to the Parker 425 on the 25th of Jan - got a very good test into North Well and then out via Alamo Lake (the Wayside) to Hyw 93. That run reinforced my opinion, and my passenger Scott (who owned our...

Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

Did roughly 60 miles of dirt on Saturday. Part of it was improved county dirt road from Jerome to the old narrow gauge RR to Chino Valley. The Falcons were set on soft, tires aired down to 18 PSI, and the ride was very nice. I'd say it was on par to the Donahoe/Icon Vehicle Dynamics Tacoma's...

Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

Falcons are on, took about six hours to install shocks and steering stabilizer. My wife reports ride quality is excellent at 2.4 rear, 2.2 front. We'll trail test them this weekend. Been wrenching for four weekends in a row between Jeep diffs, truck diffs and oil change, Jeep shocks, and truck...

2017 Ram 2500 Light bar install switched via high beam.

On the relay, the brown wire is the common center from the switch, the black is ground. The blue is battery to switch, the green stripe is high beam to switch. Fused battery power input is inboard, output to the light is outside edge. It's a much simpler relay than the Hella style. They are...

2017 Ram 2500 Light bar install switched via high beam.

Decided on Black Oak LED's 20" Dual row 200W with combo optics. The quality of the Black Oak LED’s is on par with, and exceeds many of the name brand lights and the pricing is roughly half. The package I purchased on Black Friday was $434.00 including mounts...

Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

This was the second set of Fox 2.0 - first ones were from Mr. Brady's excellent shock test. I chalked up their early failure to the testing abuse. This set is only a year old, roughly 13k on'm, and they have gone to mush... No leaks, but they wallow like the sway bar is disconnected. I actually...

Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

Not real happy with the Fox 2.0's we had on the Jeep. Having Sway-a-Way and Donahoe Racing (now Icon Vehicle Dynamics) in the past on Tacoma's ('98 and '05), it was no comparison in ride quality. So, we're going to see how the TeraFlex Falcon 3.3's compare. While not quite as large in Diameter...

    Ride the Himalaya's tour.

My cousin returned last week from his two week adventure around Ley. He really enjoyed the Royal Enfield Himalaya he road for most of the trip, not so much the Bullet for the last stages. Couple pics:

Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

LongbowMick, I wouldn't consider anything older than a '13 - the older V6 was anemic at best, and the early '12 model w/ 3.6L had head problems. The 3.6L and 4.10 gears has plenty of power for the four door.

Introducing Miss Rubi, a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited

Update: 85000 miles on Miss Rubi now - hard to believe it... For the most part, the Jeep has been my wife's daily driver, but it does get some good trail time, especially now that we've sold the Power Wagon. Good Ol' Cactus Red took the majority of the beatings off road for the last few years...

    The Cactus Red mod thread.

Well, Cactus Red has sold. One of my neighbors son's owns my old '98 Taco, and now the father will be driving the PW. Gonna be kinda strange to have them both close at hand... Yeah, it doesn't even know it's back there. Set the cruise control at the speed limit, sit back and let the truck and...

    The Cactus Red mod thread.

Well, this is it for Cactus Red. It's time to move on - we have decided to sell the Power Wagon. It's been an awesome truck, but the new trailer taxed it heavily on our summer trip to Glacier NP. It did the job, but with a loaded 8500 Lb trailer we averaged less than 6 MPG. Seems like every...

    The Cactus Red mod thread.

We had a very bad experience towing with the Cooper ST Maxx 285/70-17 tires. The exhibited some extreme tread squirm under load, and have been replaced with Toyo AT2's. They performed very well this last weekend in similar high winds. The trailer tows exceptionally well on dirt - we stayed at...

    The Cactus Red mod thread.

No radiator cooler, just two external. Also added an AFE diff cover to help keep that oil cooler as well. Yeah, previous tires have been 315's. Truck looks dorky on stockers, but it shifted the power band into a more usable range of speed. Had the new rig up near Perkins Tank in Feb - it did...

    The Cactus Red mod thread.

We're towing heavy these days. Recently got an Outdoors RV 24KTS. Dry weight is 6900, add in 90 gallons of water our "stuff" as it were, and it's about 8500 lbs. So it was time for tires anyway (got 30K on the ST Pro's - excellent tire by the way), so the truck is back to stock 285/70-17 using...
