Colin has always chosen to beat to his own drummer. In fact, in his early years he was a drummer but once he started making more money setting up someone else’s drums than playing his own, he sold them to buy his first car. This lead to a career as a sound engineer and lighting designer for touring shows giving him the opportunity to see a fair bit of our great country.
Exposed to camping as a child, Colin enjoys the outdoors and as he grew into his teen years, he did many canoe trips and bicycle tours. After graduating from university and getting married, summer outdoor trips became a yearly ritual. Colin has been camping, hiking, mountain biking or canoeing from New Brunswick right out to British Columbia and through the eastern United States.
Colin is a Land Rover enthusiast and he and his Rover have covered many trails in Canada, the US and Scotland. One trip found him covering just 6 kilometers in 13 hours, winching constantly and building a log bridge to cross a deep stream in the dark to finally get back to pavement.
A few years ago he had the opportunity to take a trip of a lifetime. Travelling by Land Rover, he and his wife covered over 6000 kilometers of backroads throughout Eastern BC and Western Alberta dogging logging trucks while enjoying the scenery and wildlife.
Back in the real world, Colin is the technical director and lighting designer at the Regent Theatre in Oshawa, is a research writer/blogger for Backroad Mapbooks and does freelance writing for International Land Rover magazines.
