If you are keen on making something but actual drawers are too much for your skills/tools, then just a box or 2 that are sized around plastic bins can work well, I made this many years ago, 2 bins similar to those posted above go in each side. One side has since been modded into a fridge slide...
Hi All, thinking about building a small table to clip on to my tyre carrier when parked & looking for ideas on how to make it adjustable. The current fold down table on the rear door works well but more bench space would be nice & being able to level it up for cooking on would be even better...
I had a 2011 2.5 manual trans Forester & quite liked it. I thought the mileage was pretty damn good for the size of the car & it towed a small-medium trailer really well, maybe not quite 25 MPG towing but not too far off. Quite good offroad for what it was.

Nice work!
I finally spotted my mate's chopped 60 again today:
He's taken the much easier approach to the chop & just welded in a flat panel. I do like your efforts to make it look factory though.

...In the USA. These are New Zealand trucks. We don't get many (if any) full sized pickups over here new. Importation & switching to RHD is $$$$$ so they are rare & expensive even 2nd hand. Parts availability would be limited. The 79 series is rated for a bigger payload than the average 4wd ute...
The concept looks great!
A mate has recently built a doublecab ute out of a diesel 60, but still on the original running gear. I like the idea of 80 series suspension much better! I'll snap some pics for you the next time I see it.

Which 70 series got the 1HD turbo motor before 1997? I think the 1HD 70 series are quite rare in the JDM, maybe just an Oz market special?
If 1997 is the cutoff then you are looking at 5th gen Hiluxes. These are leaf springs all round just like most 70 series of the same era. Dead right the...
79 series came out in 1999 I think?
When I was working for my dad we had both an ex Japan ~1987 13BT BJ74 & a NZ new ~1995 2.8 diesel Hilux in the fleet. If you don't need the deck of the pickup, the 70 series is more rugged & more powerful & they often come in a higher spec. Lots of room...
I've got a cheap combo 18Ah sealed lead acid battery power/ jump pack with a compressor. I would not trust the compressor for regular use, but the 12V sockets, 400W inverter & USB outlets all work fine & the whole mess didn't cost any more than buying just the battery & inverter separately. It...
I started modding the hell out of my Landcruiser almost as soon as I bought it :) However the improvements to the Cruiser were mostly a product of my experiences in my old Suzuki SJ413, which did a lot of miles fairly stock before any mods began, things were improved when there was a clear need...
Another cool 79 stretch + Pak-a-Bach camper from Performance Mechanical:
This one has some serious mods with a JmacX full width rear axle coil+airbag conversion, tip deck, auto gearbox etc.

Thought you guys might like a look at a recent project from my mate Klem at Performance Mechanical:
Some mutual friends have recently retired & after driving a VDJ79 around on the farm for the last few years they decided a double cab version with a camper would make a great tourer, but of...
Having used a few different types of portable & manual winches for vehicle recovery I would go for a Tirfor. They work really well compared with the other alternatives. We have an old '750kg' capacity Chinese Tirfor copy that has recovered many stuck vehicles. I've used a 2500kg one that was...
