LR3 V. 4Runner Need To Buy One Now.

Thanks for the heads up. I actually bought this LR3 and drove it back from Reno a couple weeks ago. Smooth transaction, was well maintained and already fitting into our now 2 x LR3 stable here in the CO mountains. Owning a Toyota will have to wait. Thanks!

    5th Gen 4Runner v. LR3, Need a new SUV now.

Unfortunately, I have to have an SUV that will take me off-road and handle family travel, which is the only reason "refinement" would even factor in. I started looking at the 100 LC's and LX470's; but, the MPG's and age don't profile well for a daily driver. I wish there was a vehicle with...

That's pretty nice given it's maintenance record...you can find similar in terms of year/mileage without in the $8-$9K range..but, you'd probably have to plan on $4-5K to cover deferred maintenance....I used to live in Reno and an easy drive back to CO..hmmm. Thanks

Problematic...hmm..I guess that's all perspective..let's see: seized e-brake caliper, control arms, suspension compressor, tailgate actuator, thermostat housing x2, alternator, wheel hub, water egress (sunroof drain ends, A-pillar covers, window cowling..caused wiring corrosion/suspension faults...

I also considered the larger SUVs; but, unfortunately none would fit in our current garage. Parking outside in a mountain locale where we get many feet of snow and several months of near zero temps is not appealing if I can help it; thus, the mid-size models I've focused on. In my case, I think...

    5th Gen 4Runner v. LR3, Need a new SUV now.

I've found I can do about 90% myself, which is why I'd even consider another land rover. Between forums, youTube, and a few metric wrenches/sockets the LR has been tolerable. Again, when operating properly, the LR is a fine vehicle; but, diagnosing the gremlins is sometimes a monumental...

    5th Gen 4Runner v. LR3, Need a new SUV now.

I used two actual vehicles I've seen in my local area and then realized there was a bit of disparity in year and mileage for the comparison..that said, a quick look online and I see 2010 (1st year 5th gen) 4R's ranging from $18-$24K with the same 120K miles as the LR3, so still a pretty good...

LR3 V. 4Runner Need To Buy One Now.

When I started my search recently I found multiple videos and forum posts about how unreliable LR's are and how reliable the Toyota's are; but, these same discussions and comments never mention the price disparity. I think either vehicle can be a good buy depending on the owner's mechanical...

Good feedback. I'd never heard the term "Toyota Tax" before, but it certainly seems to fit. Those things, after year one, depreciate in a slow straight line. I'm not concerned much about resale. The LR4's sure do look nice (almost too nice!)..but, really cautious about the 2010-12 model years...

    5th Gen 4Runner v. LR3, Need a new SUV now.

Currently own 2006 Land Rover LR3..since almost new and now 225K miles. So, I know a little about the LR3 and it's typical maintenance requirements and flaws (long list!). When working properly, we love the Land Rover...Use the vehicle for family, dogs, 200" per year of snow & ice here, forest...
