What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Well, yesterday I finished installing a dual-row radiator ($50 from ebay + $30 to have a local rad shop clean it up), new transmission lines, factory front skidplate ($10 from the junkyard), and welded up a jerry can mount that goes in the trailer hitch. Today, however, I got my Summer 2013...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Finished the 3" Rustys lift install today as well as the 2.5" Flowmaster exhaust. Working on it in the evenings and dealing with lots of cold weather and very rusty components, outdoors, so it took awhile... Sure felt great to go for that first spin again! Ordering 31x10.50 BFG's next week.

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

DirtBound hoops I finally got around to welding the rest of the bull bar hoops on today. Weather was just warm enough to be outside and sunny. Most of the bumper is made out of scrap steel I picked up at a junkyard, but I splurged and bought the hoop kit from DirtBount Offroad. Had to massage...

Spray-on bedliner repair (for a steam locomotive)

This one's a little off-topic, but it involves an overland vehicle of sorts and applies to many. I work at Golden Spike NHS in northern Utah (where the two ends of the first transcontinental railroad met) and I'm one of the crew members on the two replica steam locomotives we operate. To protect...

    XJ rear axle differences

Thanks for all the great info. This way I know I can buy a kit for a D35 and just source different U-bolts if needed. Hmm, I have a 8.25 under my '73 Fury III. It's not known for strength in that application, if it's even the same animal, but that car probably weights 1000lbs more than the Jeep...

    XJ rear axle differences

I give up, I need some help from the experts. Vehicle is a 2001 XJ with Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. I've been looking around at ~3" lift kits and have found some that are designed for specific years and some that are designed for specific axles. What are the differences between axles that would...

Chrysler V-twin a/c compressor for OBA

What problems did you have with the Viair? I was thinking of that as option #2. I'm not getting rid of my regular A/C. It's one of the reasons I bought my Jeep, it's the only vehicle I ever owned that has functional A/C ;-) I'm aware that a starter or winch motor can't run continuously. I'd be...

Chrysler V-twin a/c compressor for OBA

Did a little more research. The compressor I have is called an RV-2. It is NOT centrifugal, like I said it's a V-twin design. It apparently does have its own oil supply, which is good. In a recent 4-wheel mag there was a guy with a Willys pickup who was running a York off an old winch motor. I...

Chrysler V-twin a/c compressor for OBA

Anyone ever use this type A/C compressor for an onboard air system? I have a '73 Fury III that I'm removing the A/C from soon. I know the York compressors are popular for OBA, but I've got this 2-cyl thing that I otherwise don't have a use for. Just curious if anyone else has used one, how it's...

Mounting options for RTT on flat top rack, any pictures?

While I don't own a RTT (yet) I have seen how the fiberglass type are mounted when I visited Colorado Camper Van for that very purpose. The bottom of the RTT is flat fiberglass. You drill holes and mount it wherever you want to. In your case it looks like you can just drill straight through your...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

After riding around with no front speakers since I bought my XJ I finally got a wild hair after work and bypassed the factory speaker harness into the driver's door with new wire. Maybe I'll fix the passenger side speaker tomorrow...Not a hard job but being dark out and in the 20s and not having...

    Project Mini Hägglund

Wow, you have a better-equipped shop than our Dampflok-Werkstatt (although a couple of our tools are slightly bigger). Inspiring work!

    XJ T-Case

Ok, shows how new I am to the Jeeps. I remember shifting my Scout to 4Lo with just a straight shot. I didn't expect there to be a jog in the shift pattern, but that was the key here. Went right into 4Lo when I moved the shifter the right way! Duh, the pattern is shown right on the console!! It...

Custom RTT Rack... Why don't I see this?

Do you have a closeup photo or a rendering of your rain gutter mount tabs? I'm going to be purchasing a fiberglass shell type RTT later this year and I'm currently putting some ideas together for a rack to mount it to my XJ that I'll be fabbing myself. I'm going to use at least 6 mounting tabs...

    XJ T-Case

I've got a NV-231 T-case under my 2001 Cherokee. I recently rebuilt the engine, bought the vehicle non-running because of a blown head. Haven't touched the auto tranny at all. The first time I took it on a trail I found that I could only use 2-wheel high and 4-wheel high. The T-case would not...
