Another 2020 Ram 5500 Flatbed Camper Build

Thanks man! I'm not sure about the Bison Camper weight. I'm guessing around 1200-1500lb for just the shell. It's the largest one they've ever made. We'll know soon enough though. Latest estimate on pickup date is middle of January. I looked at the Alaskans but didn't like the way the whole roof...

That took some forethought getting them to slide into the bed like that. Looks super trick. Very nice!

Good eye. Unfortunately it is the smallest one they offer. Going to the mid-size would mean raising the roof a few inches and losing the space above the door for the awning. If I raise the roof, it starts to negate the main (only?) benefit of a pop-up. But I really want that taller door. I'll...

Camper Stairs! I found a Youtube video of a guy that took some Little Giant folding stairs and modified them for his camper. I made some brackets that allow these to slide down over the stake bed rails. I can use them anywhere around the bed, not just under the door. I'll eventually build some...

Thank you sir! I did go with a CB antenna and 2 meter ham antenna. The antennas are Larsen brand and the brackets I found on Ebay from a guy in Canada if I remember right. The fender mount is a compromise, but I'm really happy with how it performs. I added braided ground straps from the hood to...

This has been bugging me all day. You absolutely have a good point about the hinge. But, my stubbornness is not to be underestimated. :giggle: I may call the UT Highway Patrol and see what they say.

You've got to be kidding me. Really? I had no idea. I talked to quite a few people about it and they all either said, "well, the curb is on the right" or "that's just how we've always done it." Moving it to the passenger side wouldn't be too big a deal, except for the $1000 Thetford throne...

All of the hatches, including the door, are Tern Overland. Pretty good quality from what I read.

Sneak Peak. Right now we're still working through all the drawing revisions. (fyi, it's a pop-up roof)

You're right, but I'm not worried too much about it. The water should only be in contact with the hoses for the 5 minutes or so it takes to fill or empty the tank. Water is really only for the shower/toilet and sink anyways.

Unfortunately not. The PM basically pushes the pedal down faster and further than you do. The important thing to remember is that the pedal signal is just a request to the computer for more power. The computer determines when/how to do that, and I think that's where the difference lies. Sounds...

Banks Pedal Monster on a 5500? If you have a late model diesel truck you have no doubt noticed a significant "disconnect" between your foot and the engine. This "dead pedal" issue is widely known and only made worse by the detuned 6.7L we have in our trucks. I wanted to try one of these...

Hi Nick! Glad you found us. Be sure to check out the other Ram 5500 build threads here on EP to see what you're getting yourself into, lol. I'm working with Bison now to revise the drawings. I'll have something to share in a few weeks. The new estimated delivery date is 1/1/2022.

Another 2020 Ram 5500 Flatbed Camper Build

This was my first Overland Expo event and I have to say I was so glad I made the long trip. I met quite a few folks who just like us enjoy the build process and take pride in all the details. That builder/fabricator spirit is still alive and well in our community and I feel blessed to be in such...
