I think 01-04 sport xls and limited had 4.9 diffs. I'd like to know that too if you cam swap ring and pinion from sport to gen 3

I should have headrests, especially 3rd row cuz they are PITA lol No tire cover, no tools of any kind either, previous owner probably kept them. Trunk door handle is already going to someone. If there any interest in window motors let me know, otherwise i might just leave them there

So tranny is too much to deal with so everything that i can unbolt is coming off. Let me know what you guys want. So far all the front end is almost out. Radiator looks aftermarket. Engine harness and sensors if you want. Wheel well liners, oil coolers. Interior is OK, all electronics like...

4spd vs. 5spd

So.... my 04' tranny died so i did some research and it appears 03-06 tranny's dont live much after 200K. Typically used cost around $700-1000 and most are over 100K miles. Keep in mind it's different tranny than 01-02. I'm contemplating to part-out my montero and junk it later

01-02 is different than 03-06

i broke mine, mostly because i was impatient. I'd suggest, after removing two bolts, try to make it twist. Even if previous owner used RTV to seal the leaks, twisting should brake RTV loose. If you can spin cam cover, you can use small flat head, alternate prying from one side to another while...

i dont know if you read about my experience with pulling the engine, but reinstalling is easy with this HFT ratchet (hyperlinked)

it could be that rings are caked together, run seafoam for couple hundred miles in your oil, that could loosen them up and restore your compression. Of course if there is a crack somewhere, that wont help

what if you pour some oil through spark plugs, hook up power to starter and test compression again?
