I've always been partial to the 4runner, but the Tacoma was my dream. Bought a second gen 4 years ago, and due to a second kid on the way I sold it in Feburary, traded the wifes car and picked up a 2018 4runner SR5. My work truck is a third gen DCLB Tacoma.
Pros:
- 4runner still has the 4...
I was gonna say... Haha, how did that even get brought up? Two more gears, the same engine that's been around for nearly two decades, and a revamp on the interior? Ground breaking stuff, lol.
Costs the same as a Tundra, is largely avoided because time after time it has the WORST fuel economy...
The F150 with the 3.5 only averages 16mpg anyways. And the one guy who drives it 5-10 under the speed limit and regularly gets 19 probably needs a little more excitement in his life...
This got brought up AGAIN? You probably have 2-3 hours of solid reading in the last thread that was closed.
Is the Tundra up to speed with coffee cup warmers and AC for your nuts? Nope. Is it long overdue for an update? Yup. Is there ANYTHING overly wrong with it? Nope. (Despite what the F150...
I've bounced engine ideas around in my head a million times over, while daydreaming about building a one off 79 series cruiser. We haven't had a 70 series in North America since the late 80's/early 90's, thus my desire for one.
At the end of the day, I wouldn't choose a single one of those...
It's so crazy... You could EASILY build a pretty bonkers rig with that $16K if you used an early/mid 90's Toy.
At those kind of prices, importing a LHD 4 door 70 Series starts looking more and more attractive overall...
I've had a supercharger and BP51 setup in my cart for WEEKS now, just begging to threaten my marriage and punish my credit card :ROFLMAO: (truth be told, I'm probably just going to suck up the price on the BP51 and be done with it)
We just bought our first house, so it's unlikely to happen any...
I misread this... I thought you said that you bought one WITH all the bells and whistles, haha.
Interestingly enough, with the 6th gen 4runner looming, my wife asked why we didn't wait another year to get all the new stuff. My response was that I wanted to keep a 4runner for 20+ years. Once...
Overall this thread is interesting to me... Because this is the exact dilemma I'll face in the next 5-6 years when I buy a new truck.
I think I was speaking more to the overall thread than you specifically, when it comes to diesel. It's a moot point, and that horse died like 2 months ago.
Lexus/Toyota are arguably at the pinnacle of precision automotive engineering... And you honestly think they couldn't build a 10 speed slush box, or at the very least sign a service agreement with someone else for a big fat check? (FWIW, the Aisin autos from yesteryear are shared by Jeep and...
I thought I heard it was a patent thing?
Once you remove the EGR, and throw in a chip to get it to run/shift properly (voiding the warranty), they're ok. (So like another 3-5k on top of your purchase price).
Except for the Cummins. Dodge are so out of touch with reality they put a 500ft-lb...
