New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

Helpful, to be a devils advicate, couldnt it be shunting on the input side and limiting overall wattage that way?

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

Fair point - but couldnt theoretically they be measuring output current and using that information to limit output 40A?

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

How can you be sure it’s not due to an internal shunt?

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

Was curious if anyone could shed some light on this requirement, Renogy tech support has been less than helpful In theory it should be fine to ground anywhere but concerned that they have a current shunt as a means to regulate the output and using a different ground will break that functionality

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

Dumb install question, directions say: "Connect the negative cable directly to the negative terminal of the battery, and not to the chassis of a vehicle or boat." I have a fairly complex run from starter battery to Dc/DC converter and was planning on running an 8AWG + wire only and grounding...

New DC to DC Charger From Renogy-20 amps or 40 amps-Flooded/AGM/GEL/Lithium

Doesn't look like there is a way to get this DC/DC converter to output a constant current in the desired 13.8-14 range and then have it shut off. Is Sterling the only unit that does that? I hate paying for all that extra complexity in dollars as well as size....

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

Fair point about the starting battery, still would love to be able to taper my output to 35-40 amps to keep the heat down. I am running a Subaru ej22 in my vanagon with a 70a alternator so not a lot of power to spare and definitely no thermal control

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

My understanding is that running an alternator flat out will result in overheating and a very short life. Also wouldn’t the starting flooded battery not appreciate 60+ amps?

Lots of good info packed in your post jonyjoe. How are you measuring SOC in your setup? I see a digital display inyour balancer picture can you tell me what you are using? Also I still need a way to limit current from the alternator- otherwise the batteries will take the max amount and fry the...

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

The sterling line was definitely my starting point, and remains a viable option. At the end of the day all I need is a constant current converter that can deliver a steady 30 amps and has a remote off trigger so that the sbms can shut it off when full charge has been achieved. It just seems a...

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

Well we are inefficient users of the truck fridge (kids going in and out constantly) and want to be able to put in warm beers to chill them. Right now our deep cycle Trojan is done after 2 days or so. We also recently added a propex and want to be able to recharge MacBooks (usb-c) so for the...

Need a little help designing lifepo4 system with alternator charging

Looking to swap out my 120ah Trojan flooded setup to a lifepo4 pack on my VW westy syncro. I want to use 180-200ah prismatic battery cells, most likely CALB cells. I would like to use the Electrodacus sbms system given the built in monitoring as well as customization. From what I understand I...
