What makes a good camp stove?

Funny, this article just posted on Expedition Portal with a review of the old Coleman stove. A bit overly critical (or sarcastic), but the Coleman is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it kind of stove. I personally take the ability to get fuel anywhere I can fill up my truck (an not having to throw...

What makes a good camp stove?

I am also a big fan of the Coleman stove that burns regular car gas, especially for longer trips. Fill up when you pump gas and carry some extra. Once you learn how to operate and clean them they are almost as easy to use as a propane stove. Also have a MSR Whisperlight that I have had for 25...

    Scenic Maps for Android ?

Take a look at OSMAnd, slightly different features from Scenic Route but great for on and off-road navigation and hiking. Off-line maps and off-line routing. https://osmand.net/ Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

who is using a real gps vs a tablet

OsmAnd is the most overlooked app for overlanding. Much better than Gaia or BCN. Maps are vector maps and you can download one state at a time. I have all of the SW US and it's only a couple of GB. It's based on Open Street Maps and has great coverage for off-road trails an forest service roads...

SMS Text and Email via APRS using APRSdroid

The problem with cutting the TX line is that you won't be able to use the message feature. I agree, the Kenwood D710 is nice since you have the two options with APRSDroid, just use APRSDroid to display stations and let the radio handle all the APRS stuff, or let APRSDroid controll everything...

    Wilco Hitchgate Offset

Yes, a bit far but would be a nice trip! Idaho is definitely on our list. Passed through on our way to Wyoming two years ago and want to go back. Good luck with the sale and if you still have it this summer let me know. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

    Bluetooth Module for Kenwood D710

I added a GPS module as well as the Bluetooth module inside the head unit of a D710. Pretty straight forward. See the link I posted above. Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

    Bluetooth Module for Kenwood D710

Here is the board. Has all the components you listed on a single board. De-solder the serial connector and solder on wires for power and serial and done. Was thinking of putting one in the main unit too but need to find 5V power in there. Should not be too hard. Now somebody just needs to...

    Bluetooth Module for Kenwood D710

Or you can put the Bluetooth module inside the head unit and avoid all the cables. Tight fit but works great. https://github.com/ge0rg/aprsdroid/issues/154#issuecomment-413273694 Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk

Looking for a solid APRS rugged handheld radio

I have an FT-1DR and it's a great radio. Works really well for APRS. Too bad they stopped making it but you might be able to find one used. The VX-8DR is more rugged but the lack of an internal GPS makes it more cumbersome for APRS.

    Yakima SkyRise RTT

I found that after posting. Ended up using the SeaToSummit buckles. They work great, make compressing the tent with bedding inside so much easier. Would do that even if the Velcro was still working.
