    HAM radio/amateur radio FAQ

After reading some of the postings on the Zed, I can guarantee you they don't like any of it. Seems like if it's not Morse Code, they think it's awful. Perhaps they might try RTTY and PSK31, but aside from that, they seem very adverse to new tech. Funny for a hobby that is driven by technology...

    HAM radio/amateur radio FAQ

Dude, good summery. One of the things that really drives me nuts is the assertion that Winlink being uses by Terrorist! Get a grip. Anything someone wants to ban something, they either scream "think of the children!" or prattle on about terrorists. It's so boring. In this day and age of...

    HAM radio/amateur radio FAQ

I wish I could agree with you on winlink. And actually, up until a few years ago, I would have. Heck, I even wrote a short blog about it: https://axlesandantennas.com/blogs/news/winlink-weekend But it had gotten so bad with the LIDS causing malicious interference, I finally gave up and got a...

    price gouging.

Just be patient. I've seen this ebb and flow a lot, although not this bad. I was at Rural King a few days ago in Knoxville and they had a ton. Prices were Meh, but it was there. After hitting a few more gun stores, here is what I have seen and what I think may happen: Prices are stable and...

Any input on Portable Fridge/Freezer Units?

I use an Iceco JP40. So far I have really liked the unit and it lives full time in my Wrangler. According to their literature, they use the same compressors as the much more expensive units. From my undertanding, this is what will really set the units apart from less expensive units. I did a...

    Best Real-Time GPS Tracking Apps

To record points and tracks? I like Gaia. It seem to be the easiest to set up and get going. At least for the iphone, it is fairly accurate when compared to my Garmin 78 series with externally mounted antenna.

AnyTone 578Pro install into a 2016 Toyota Tundra

Hey all, New video up of an install of an AnyTone 578Pro into one of my customers Toyota. It's not really a step by step, but more of a "things to know". Please check it out and do the youtube thing. Thanks and 73! (also, excuse the intro...I like to goof around with that stuff!)

New Garmin GPS/Radio combo, pretty cool

Correct and on the product page they do emphasize that as well. But since I'm a Garmin loyalist, radio nerd, and camper, this device really caught my interest.

New Garmin GPS/Radio combo, pretty cool

Excellent and thoughtful points. I really did a good job of glossing over one of the main selling points of this Tread unit, and that is for a user to keep track of his other buddies using the same type of unit. And thus, the data requirement. I did not know that the FCC restricted data as per...

New Garmin GPS/Radio combo, pretty cool

While at the Smoky Mountain Overland Rally this past weekend, I was poking around the other vendors and came across this new Garmin Tread gps/radio combo ($799) In a nut shell, it seems to be a combo of a newer version of an Overlander and a MURS radio (more on that in a minute). The vendor...
