I for one would be interested in those pics, Curtis. I don't have the truck we're discussing here but one that is very similar in size and weight, and have just figured out there's a 6 speed overdrive box that will fit in place of my old 5 speed with some parts swapping. The trade off is I will...
May I offer a wildcard to consider if you can't find a Townace within budget: The Toyota Previa. Get an AWD one and they are apparently quite capable. Similar size, dirt cheap (well they are in the UK), reliable and very stealthy, if that's a requirement. There's a few camper converted Previas...
Having just read the thread from the beginning, I must say this is one of the most impressive and inspiring builds I've read. You saw what other people couldn't when looking at the poor neglected thing at the beginning. I find myself irrationally happy for Merkabah, getting plucked from a bleak...
What a thoroughly awesome machine. The pop top is excellent, really useful additional height without messing with the damn near perfect proportions these Volvos have. Tyres and paint a massive improvement also. When does the interior build out commence?
Bookmarked!
Great to see such a serious build get underway and you obviously have the skill and knowledge to pull it off. It looks seriously mean and capable already
Thank you for the replies, I'm very glad I asked here.
Good to know overcautiousness isn't necessarily a bad thing with the intended use, and yes I hadn't properly factored in the value of the peace of mind a thorough rebuild will give me. Also, getting to know the engine is something I will...
You'd have to been extremely careful taking that amount of strength from a unibody shell like that. It could be reinforced but it's no small task.
Better would be to do this to a box truck bodied version of your preferred van. No structural issues to worry about so long as the frame remains...
Hello all. I'd really appreciate your thoughts/critique my plans with regards to preparing my truck mechanically for longterm global travel later this year.
My vehicle is probably unfamiliar to the majority here, a 1996 Renault Messenger 2.5 turbo diesel. Fully mechanical Iveco engined, beam...
Thank you for the comprehensive reply, just what I needed to know and wanted to hear. I'll probably go with spraying it on I think in light of this advice, will maybe post my results in this thread or another.
That's a tough look Zerodrift.
I have a question regarding this bed liner stuff: I've converted a box truck for expedition, and I'm planning to roller on some Raptor for a durable finish to the box and smarten it up. The box has a thin fibreglass roof that has gone slightly porous letting in...
Just read the whole thread, a really enjoyable read.
You started with a very nice example, the work you've done on it is some of the best I've ever seen. Great attention to detail and engineering. Stunning!
