    Camper with 2 small kids

My recommendation would be to *not* invest too heavily in something that seems perfect for 2 little kids. They get older so fast and the needs/wants change. For comfort now, if you are towing, just get a cheap travel trailer and get out.

Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon Setups

I found the mattress on amazon... it just happened to be exactly the right length and comes with a waterproof cover (good for kids). The only negative is that it is memory foam which the firmness is temperature dependent and around freezing and below, it gets rock hard... easy enough to warm up...

Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon Setups

Thanks! Currently, the bed platform in the back is a separate and sits on the bed rail on one side and some angle aluminum mounted to the main cabinet on the other side. It is bolted down with 2 bolts so I remove that panel fairly regularly if I need to move something tall and long. For sheet...

Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon Setups

I put in a water pump connected to a jerry can and pull out hose sprayer. It ended up being super simple and the whole system was around $80. Second, an even simpler addition is a holder for the camp table. It was always a pain in the ass to move stuff to get to the table. Now it just slides...

Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon Setups

The following is a build I put together with a Vagabond Drifter Camper (mostly copied from a thread on Tacomaworld.com). I picked up the Drifter back in February 2019 and worked on it mostly in the spring and early summer. I bought a the truck mainly for the camper in August 2018: I worked...

    2020 Ford Transit AWD

I don't think that's true. I think in general insurance is cheap for RVs because on average, they don't get a lot of miles on them. The "average" rv owner barely uses their rv. On the contrary, commercial vans get (in general) heavy use and as a pool of users, the insurance rates reflect that.

Putting a FWC Hawk in a short-bed truck?

Have you considered a shell pop-up for the truck and a small trailer (teardrop, offroad/rtt, etc) to get what you need? That way, the truck is setup for quick solo/2-person trips and you can bring the trailer for an extra bed and storage for the full family trips.

Feeler: 2006 TRD Tacoma OVRLND Camper - Denver

I was wondering why you were selling. We have a Drifter and have made it work with 2 kids. But I can definitely see the want/need to get in something just a little bigger. Also, I've wanted to check out/compare builds as I think we're pretty close.

    Vagabond Outdoors Drifter

There is the Adventure Trailers Summit, Snap Treehouse, Ovrlnd Camper, FWC Project M (soon), admitting the last two are not wedge pop-ups. If I had to do it again, I'd still buy the Drifter but there are a lot of good options.

    extrusions

I ended up building my platforms out of 30 series. It seemed like the best deal at the time as it worked out to a little less than $0.20/inch. I bought it online from a company called Zyltech. Them and Tnutz seem to be the cheapest. You're welcome to check out my Drifter build assuming you're in...

The quest for the perfect family (5 of us) overlanding/camping setup....

You could probably make an AT Habitat work with some creative bed platforms... maybe a hitch mounted swingout cargo box for all the gear. I've slept 4 fairly comfortably in my wedge camper shell but we do mostly short trips.

    GFC vs. Vagabond

GMC Canyon 6ft bed. Same layout should work fine with a 5ft though.

    GFC vs. Vagabond

Three sounds easy... I'm trying to put 4 into my drifter. Two adults plus littles is doable. I built a bed platform big enough for my four year old. He should be able to sleep across the bed for a while. I've camped with my four year old and he slept great on the platform. He can't quite sit up...

Why not in USA? Australian Style Folding Camper Trailers - Front, Rear, Side folding - Hard floor, Soft Floor

I think the idea is that you run the same/similar wheel/tire on your trailer so you have potentially 2 extra spares for the tow vehicle.
