    MURS Mobile Transceivers

Yeah I've been hearing about the license-by-rule petitions for GMRS as well. I recall a discussion somewhere (Radio Reference maybe?) that the use of repeaters would go by the wayside if that happens. There are a LOT of repeaters currently up on the band (around my area I hear repeaters on top...

Best value in 12V fridges, Indel B vs Dometic

Yep. And not too long ago they made the cutoff voltage adjustable. I bought my Edgestar 43qt in 2010. It's been one of the best purchases I've made. No problems with temperature uniformity either, things are just as cold up above the compressor unit as they are down in the bottom.

    New Ranger/Bronco SFA rumor

That looks like a nice truck (you wasted no time getting a little mud on it too I see :) ). So it sounds like you didn't have any real issue with the axle/suspension other than with the automatic hubs (which mechanically-engaged automatic hubs tend to be problematic no matter what axle they are...

    New Ranger/Bronco SFA rumor

******** Jealous, are we? :D (sure sounds like it) Definitely not a fanboy but yes I do like the vehicle. Just so happens that I knew what a good vehicle was that doesn't fall apart when you try to seriously offroad it, doesn't beat you up on the highway, and actually has some amount of room inside...

    MURS Mobile Transceivers

Very true. I guess I'm just trying to figure out why GMRS and/or ham come up so often before MURS as a replacement for 11m CB (an unlicensed (license-by-rule) short range personal radio service)... Almost never is it mentioned, even with the caveat you'd need to repurpose a handheld as a mobile...

    New Ranger/Bronco SFA rumor

The Xterra isn't with us anymore. 4Runner sales are about half of what Wrangler sales are. The FJC was laughed at because it had IFS and a non-removable top, and wasn't real accessible to the aftermarket (that should tell you something right there when people were buying 10 shoddy-quality...

    New Ranger/Bronco SFA rumor

The Bronco was never truly IFS. At it's end it did have the TTB axle which technically can be considered as IFS, but it wasn't quite the same thing as the A-arm IFS that everything else uses currently. It actually was on a similar level of durability & modifiability as a solid axle and could...

    MURS Mobile Transceivers

This is why I mentioned use of something already existing (PCB from a MURS handheld), it would greatly reduce (though not entirely eliminate) the cost for a majority of those items. This was an exceptionally common practice with CB base station radios. Nearly every one contained a PCB virtually...

    MURS Mobile Transceivers

^^ I agree, though I don't think it's an unreasonable proposition for someone to bring to market a mobile MURS transceiver... All a company needs to do is mount an existing PCB from a handheld design radio into a small flat box chassis, add a 12VDC input onto the back and a mic jack (and of...

    Quick Antenna Question

Top-loaded antennas (Francis, Firestik, etc.) will be less affected by stuff in the vicinity of the antenna base than base-loaded antennas (Wilson 1000/5000, K40, etc.) will. Something to keep in mind if it will be near a roof rack piled with gear. The taller the antenna, the less affected it...

    Antique CB?

Sounds like maybe the mic is miswired (mic connector fits in the radio, but each pin is wired different). I know this is the case with Midland vs. Cobra 4-pin mics. I'm not familiar with that Regency, but you might see if you can get the radio to TX and/or RX by jumping the pins together in the...

How long should I expect a mid-priced 12v Fridge to last?

Going by past threads here, it seems the temp sensor is the most problematic part of any fridge, regardless of it's price point. AC power supply units maybe 2nd... perhaps followed by freon leakage. Temp sensor replacements and PS unit swaps can often be done DIY. Finding a shop that can...

    2006 Mazda B2300 Build Thread

This really depends on how much sun you get, the outside temperature, and how willing you are to reposition the panel to follow the sun with it. I have a 170W bi-fold (suitcase) panel that's more than enough for my fridge (43 qt) though I'm also usually the one who provides the tunes and lights...

    "Budget" Vehicles for DD/OL/Expo

The Ford Explorer is a good solid truck that I didn't see mentioned yet... I see '91-'01 models (inc. '02 & '03 Sport) go for as cheap (or often even cheaper) than the XJ. I think they're more solid vehicles too (after all, they do have a frame, and interestingly the Jeep guys seem to revere...

Dual battery install: DONE! - Uh, Sort of...

Sure thing. Glad to hear you made a new friend and you got it straightened out. Experience is the best way to learn things, because that is how you know if something actually works or if it doesn't work. ;) Hard to argue with that. FWIW, those screws sticking out with nothing on them look like...
