The Lunchbox Build... 4x4 chevy shorty van

Just checked back on this thread after a few months away. Congratulations on getting it DONE! What a monster project. Honestly, I was afraid you would run out of steam before you got it rolling,...but NO! I especially like the bumper you fabbed. Yours looks great. I've built a few myself...

    UJOR Build Thread

I used a license tag bracket backup camera; offset a little since the tag bracket is in right hand door, but not much difference in the inside picture.

Just picked up a 2006 Chevy Express 2500.

I cannot for the life of me understand why GM cant come up with paint that sticks! Cool van BTW.

    88 E350 Gearing 4:10 or 4:56?

I agree with Baja: I have 4:10's with 33's and 4 sp OD tranny, but always lock out 4th gear (overdrive) when I get to the mtns. 4.56 seems mighty low for a non OD tranny, unless you really never want to hit the super slab.

    88 E350 Gearing 4:10 or 4:56?

Either ratio (4:10 or 4:56) will be a Huge improvement over your 3:55's. If I remember right, a C6 doesn't have a positive lockup in 3d, so yours is probably making up for the too tall ratio with lots of slip. Your van will be so much happier, and run like a champ in the mtns once you drop the...

    4x4 Van Options

I like the simple / flexible approach. We throw a couple cots and all our gear in the back when its time to camp. On the 4wd issue, the times I use mine are: 1)Colorado ski trips, 2) driving across cow pastures on wife's farm, and 3) boat launching on gravel or muddy ramp. The 4wd was...

My quest to get a van. Looking for advice and wisdom.

I'm on my 3d van, which I've owned for 14 years. On a recent trip to Alaska, we rented a 4wd Chevy Pickup for a week of traveling backroads down the Kenai. How I missed the Van! Everything in back was either wet, dirty, or both. No ability to crawl back for a quick (dry and secure) nap. I...

" Right now I am leaning towards cutting up a 6" Spa Sensations mattress from Walmart to fit my odd size platform. " Now you're speaking my language! That frame looks really nice BTW.

I know I'm cheap, but for that kind of money, I'll just keep taking the YOGA classes so I can step all the way up w/o the extra step!

    E350 Gray Vhale Build Thread

These 4WD monsters are popping up everywhere! Btw, on some of your earlier comments: gas mileage-- yep the ol' v-10 isn't going to do much better than abt 10mpg on that long haul on I-70 into Denver. Its uphill and usually against the wind. 12 mpg normal flat Hwy. Varies a lot in the...

Hey Farmer, I may have seen your van in the lot when we were skiing Eldora over Spring Break. Were you there a couple or 3 weeks ago? We are Okies, but my son now lives in Broomfield, so we usually combine Skiing with fam visit and go to Eldora. Snow pic is from last year, by the Magic Carpet...

    E350 Gray Vhale Build Thread

I use these all the time when hauling ladders or my Tipi poles. Kind of a pain to mount, but real handy once theyre up there! And Cheap; think I paid $245 for a new set, came in white powdercoat. Once mounted, they are super stable and will take a lot of weight. Your 55# awning would not even...
