    eatSleepWoof gets a 6x12

Nice work! I'm at about the same point you are, but with a 5' X 10'. Same arched roof spars, plastic cap for the only compound curves of the trailer up front on top. My one rear door swings curbside and I'll be mounting half of the trailer galley on it. Twin-size mattress bunk area forward...

    Synthetic winch line?

Brilliant, that capstan technique! May have to give that a whirl one day. Meanwhile... I just looked up the Warn 8274, and, good grief! that must be a great winch. I can see why you'd almost never "need" to shorten your winch line with that amazing machine... Thanks again for your help. (y)

    Synthetic winch line?

Outstanding info, Metcalf. Thank you. What do you use? either a knot or a device such as an X-lock ($) to shorten your winch line for those times you deem that necessary...

    The Tauler Jack thread

Pretty nifty jack. Two questions: 1. Looks like it may weigh considerable less than a farm jack/Hi Lift. If so, how much lighter is it? (typical 4' farm jack) 2. Does anyone offer a winch kit for it such as is available for the Hi Lift?

Where to mount Solar Controller (Tacoma)

Ideally, in order to properly charge that battery (assuming it's the lead acid, factory starting battery for the truck), the battery needs to see ALL of the voltage that the charge controller is sending. This is a tough thing to accomplish if the charge controller is far away from the battery...

    Winch Options

Peter, forgive me. The resolution of the photo, and the metal loop affixed to the vehicle isn't clear. I do understand that we prefer to give cable under tension as large a radius as possible when changing the direction of said cable or rope. Now then: We learn by asking questions. How does...

    Winch Options

On second thought I am unsure if Peter is serious, or if this is a safety lesson in disguise... The attachment point on the vehicle looks suspect as does the extreme bend at that point in the cable... If the photo is instead a representation of an honest attempt, then, I would suggest that...

    Winch Options

One could in the unlikely event you describe yank on the supply cables and pull apart the Anderson connector... Having said that, I'm not trying to *justify* anything, here. I'm only posting some thoughts. It is interesting, however, to see now that Peter in Australia has posted his Warn 16.5Ti...

Yeah? Well, lol, that's how come-alongs are used! So... *grin*

    Winch Options

Hah! Wow... I had been thinking of this exact rig... I have no front hitch receiver, no bull bumper, no front winch mount... just a recently-purchased, near-disposable! (the price!) X-Bull 10,000lb winch sold with a red synth winch rope... and I mounted it last week on an X-Bull receiver-ready...

    Small Off-Road Build

15 large for this work of art is a STEAL. Holy Toledo! Ohio, man... what a great build. Beyond these few words, I am speechless to describe my awe of your trailer contstruction. Thanks for taking the time to post it all. Good grief. If only I hadn't started already on a 5 X 10 cargo...

    Off-road Heavy Duty Casita Build

Great trailer, great thread. What an amazing baby picture, too. I have an '16 aluminum-bodied F150 and a tiny 5 X 10 cargo trailer I'm turning into a 1.5-person camper. It's like an uberlight 1/2-ton version of your rig, but simpler. Installing the OG Timbren Axle-less right now (OG as in made...

Cargo Trailer 5x8 Overland Conversion - Cherokee XJ Content

Love the progress you've made on this thing. I can see a lot of work that has gone into it since the last time I checked your thread. Bravo!

    Mercedes-Benz 917 AF Renovation.

And then there was Covid-19. It has been one year, seven months since this thread's last post. What a wonderful rig. What fantastic travels. What glorious views! Thank you Joe for taking the time to post it all. What has happened in the interim? Hope all are well.
