How well are these in dusty areas?
I drove the TransLabrador Highway that consisted of 300 miles of dusty gravel. Mind you, I added a tailgate seal to my Ram 1500, but overall, I was impressed with how clean it stayed inside. The dust culprit is the tailgate, so if you seal that up, you’re fine in my opinion.

The Habitat portion is very dust proof, and we get a good seal between the lift gate and the tailgate. The most common areas for dust intrusion is the truck tailgate, as mentioned above. Running bulb seal around the tailgate helps minimize this.

The 3rd Gen Tacoma’s have issues with dust coming in through the composite bed. This can be prevented by caulking the seams on the bed. X Overland discovered this issue and successfully sealed their Tacoma. They may have more insight on how to seal the bed up.

Awning ideas for my Habitat.
I have two ARB awning panels, Windbreak Front & Windbreak Side. They attach to a pull out ARB type awning differently.
I put a C track awning track across the rear for the front Windbreak and plan to take side Windbreak to upholstery shop to have 5 one inch Velcro straps swen on top edge to run through footman loops to attach to side of Habitat. I'll need to mount 5 footman loops also.
The side panels can be staked out to enclose the underside of habitat or used with poles to extend shade. The tent will pull over top edge of awning and let rain run down awning panels.
I tried using awning track on the sides but they interfere with open/closing habitat.
I can't stake it out in the driveway but you get an idea of my project.

Testing out ARB side panel with clamps.

Another idea- My Tepui Awning extension tent has a piece that slides into the awning track I mounted on the Habita to attach tent to Habitat.
Not sure why but it's there.

My idea for an awning - I used a front runner awning and bracket mounted to structural angle iron attached to the habitat rack. I had to relocate the support post, but it does work pretty well, of course moving it to the opposite side is not really worth the hassle so I have to orient how I park.

Does the extra weight make much difference in opening and closing the Habitat?
