Smittybilt Scout Trailer Reviews?

Looking good!

If I may ask, what cases are those on the slideout? I have a few Pelican cases and while they are stout, they don't fit nearly as nice as yours does.

Sorry for the late reply, have been busy at work before I leave for France for a week... The cases are made by Rigid and you can get them in different sizes from Home Depot. https://www.homedepot.com/s/22%2520in.%2520Pro?NCNI-5

They are waterproof, dustproof and actually airtight as I found out when changing elevation. I originally had them on my tacoma build that I decided to abandon.

I do think so. If you look at it, the arms are setup as skid plates that will let you slide the trailer over hard obstacles. (backing up is a different story) on a solid axle you have the axle tube hanging low. That said, I will be taking mine to Rubicon with a friend that has a very nice home built trailer with solid axle, so we'll see.

yea not to mention they just look bad ***. Slowly spending a couple grand vs spend 6k all at once....

Unreal work. nicely done man. My amazon shopping cart is all loaded up thanks to you guys lol. Only thing i'm not adding is the water heater....yet....

Thanks... :)

Next is a kitchen cabinet over the left fender...... :) :)
The water heater is a lot easier than it appears. Hanging and using it, is very easy. If you wanna cover it up, it gets a bit more complicated, but there are several great solutions here.

Brackets for the awning did not fit the ARB pattern. Off to the hanger and do a little fabbing. I simply cut of one side of the stock bracket, and welded a tap on it. Simple and it works great.

ARB 8 foot'er is on the smitty. Note the low power 1.5 watt out door light pods. There are two of them under the awning.
IMG_7726.jpg

There are 2 of these on the exterior, and 4 on the interior. I have used these for several years. They are bright, cheap, and predictable. And ohh.... they come with 3M sticky tape, and I have yet to have one fall off.
Fridge compartment is wired, and now is lighted.
IMG_7727.jpg

Then I have three 9 watt ( 3 emitters @ 3 watts each in each pod) for a total of 27 watts exterior lighting. They can either be turned on with a switch on the panel...... or via RF remote..... Heck.... they can even strobe, if ya wanna scare ya neighbors away, or perhaps they will bring the tequila.... Ha ha.

Can you post links on where you purchased the pods? and other electrical?

Yeppers.....
I used two kinds. The 1.5 pods watt I have been using for the past 7 years. One project being parking lights for a motorcycle adventure bike, as I made a complete headlight replacement.
There are a few pictured of beam patterns in the build on my FB page, if you are interested.

They can be had here:

The bigger 9 watt pods are new to me, but they are non lensed ( as compared to the 1.5 watter which has a lens that yields a focused 90 deg. beam angle) and offer a 150 deg beam, which is a perfect flood light. They can be had here:

That should about do it for the electrical... :) :)

The 8 foot ARB is a big one, but after a family powwow we chose that size for the 4 of us. ARB does say that it may not protrude more than 70cm out from the mount on either side, and I have 90 cm in the front, and 65 cm in the back, so I will chance it whilst watching closely, and mod the mount as necessarily. It is a simple to operate and very sturdy unit.

Hi there
I see you have adopted the generator drawer to use for the fridge ( I did the same) - did you drill all the holes in the back of the tray for ventilation or were they there when you bought it? I had to drill in mine hoping the fridge will not overheat in this space
Thanks, Richard

Hi Richard.
From what I understood, it could be used as either gen, or fridge. I do not have a good one picked out, that fits, yet. It is a tight space wrt with and depth to a certain extend, and I have not found a good alternative to the Smitty arctic fridge, which does fit right in. I have been close to pulling the trigger on the smitty several times, but are a bit intimidated by the terrible reviews it has gotten. Amazon has it right now for $467, which is a crazy price....arrrrgggg.
On to your question. I have not drilled any vents yet, so what you see is what I have from the factory. I currently have a heat sink fridge, but it pulls 4.7 amps and does in fact emit a lot of heat, but the compressor style should not need a vent to remove heat. Or at least in theory. :) :)
I think I will work on that after I decide what to do wrt the fridge purchase.

Interesting...
My trailer came with no holes in the side walls of the tray, maybe they re-designed it since. I have SB Arctic fridge, like you said it fits right in, I only had to drill another hole for the pin to secure the slide out. Manual for the fridge says something about 4 inches of clearance around the fridge but I’ve seen people put those things in tighter spaces with no issues
I’m hitting the road for couple weeks soon, we’ll see how it performs
