Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

Eagle 05 - I had that same problem! I was quite disappointed, but kept telling myself "It's a Jeep". (I find that I use that line on myself a bit too much)

Anyway, one day I was driving along and my nephew (who was riding shotgun) noticed that the front bolt on his side (the one located just about the center line of the front doors and runs up through the roll bar and into the J30) was so loose that it was ready to fall completely out! Turns out, the one on the drivers side was just as bad. I went home and tightened them both up properly and the dripping is now just a small drizzle. Yes, if I open the door when it's raining (or at the car wash when the top still has water on it) there is a small stream that runs down and hits my door sill or maybe a little bit will get onto the floor, but it's NOTHING like before. What I've got going now is completely acceptable to me. I mean....It's a Jeep.

I had a similar problem with that bolt when I lived in Florida. I put some sealant/caulk on the bolt head and that ended it.

I don't think it's a loose bolt problem. Though I did check them just to see. No issues or changes there.
Here is a pic from today during the relatively light rain storm going on right now. You can see how all the water comes to that one point. I guess I could rig a small piece of plastic into a diverter to push the rain towards the windshield.

It looks like it's going to be a wet week with Tropical Storm Cindy coming up from the gulf.
The only solution I have for now is to park nose upslope.

Hmmmm. That's unfortunate. It sure sounded like the same problem that I had.

If you do come up with a solution, please share. Good luck.

Had the same issue with mine so I ripped the entire applied rubber gutter off. Now it drips even everywhere, which is better then right in the front door on your feet. The problem is the applied gutter ends right there and all the water pours off right there down the door, or open door.

A question for those who had Ursa Minor install USB power into the camper top: Is your USB charger always hot? Even with the master switch to the camper turned off? I've been chasing a parasitic draw in my jeep and have discovered that my USB (and 12V power port) is always hot regardless of camper master switch position or ignition position. Not concerned with the 12v power port, but the USB charger will definitely draw power. Pulling the fuse to the camper is the only way to kill power to those ports, so I'm thinking something was wired incorrectly in the camper. I would be very appreciative if others would share their experience in this area!

My headliner USB and my 12V outlet up top are always hot regardless of the switch position. I assumed they would turn off with the switch, but nope.

Did anyone else on here who ordered a J30 have any communication issues with Ursa Minor?

I order mine back on March 1st, paid the deposit and have probably spoke with John twice since then. I attempted to email him several times and received NO reply. I finally called him back at the beginning of June and he stated it was set to ship the week of June 12. June 12th has obviously come and gone with hearing nothing.

Sent out an email again last week and have heard nothing again. Starting to get a little worried......any similar stories?

I guess at this point I will just document everything. : /

Hey Bam, don't get too worried, Ursa Minor will deliver you a quality product. They are a really small company, their product is popular, they are probably swamped as it's peak camping in many parts of the country and they seem to live the lifestyle they are selling... meaning they go out and get remote themselves. My communications experience wasn't perfect either, but they did get back to me and made sure I was taken care of. I guess it's hard to match everyone's expectations for a certain level of communications. I prefer more, some people are OK with less. My philosophy is that if I call and don't get a response in a day or so, I don't feel bad about leaving another message then another. Polite but also firmly indicating I need a response. We eventually found a reasonable middle ground during my order/install/post-install window. In the end it has been all worthwhile because their product is really good and their hearts are in the right place.

Thanks for that data point, Eagle. Interesting why they leave 'em hot all the time. I may swap out the USB charger with another 12V socket then use a USB charger adapter that I can remove when I'm leaving the camper. The socket itself should have no draw. In my case these are sockets at the rear of the camper and easily accessible from below.

Figure it was time for me to contribute a little J30 porn. Here is my rig in the Alvord Desert in SE Oregon. Spent a night on the playa while in transit between remote spots: The Owyhee Canyonlands further east and the Fremont NF to the west. I really enjoy having a J30 camper top!

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. I was hoping to pose this message in a way that was not slamming the company; that is not my intent. Just got a little worried when I was told a ship date that has been passed up by a month now and haven't heard anything.

Again thanks for your input.

Best of luck, hope you get your top soon and post up once you have it!

@Bam2413 Did anyone else on here who ordered a J30 have any communication issues with Ursa Minor?

Yes. I had good communications with them until I ordered the top. I called at random times everyday the week of when the top was to be ready. I had the top installed at their shop and after I didn't hear from them at the time they said they'd call I called I decided to just show up. They told me they had been calling me but got no answer, my cell phone didn't show any calls from him and no voicemail messages.

I also never heard back from them after a couple of emails and voice messages about a problem I was having with water leaks at the rear hatch.

Thanks for posting your experience. I guess I will just keep waiting.....going on six months now. Hopefully they pull through for me......

That's exactly what I do up top. At some point I may pull the headliner USB outlet and splice in a switch, but the small draw from the LED hasn't been too much of an issue yet. I'm more bothered by the light itself at night.

As for the communication woes, I had similar issues once the top was paid for. Sometimes there was a lot of back and forth and other times I was underwhelmed.

I don't mean to pile on, but I found communicating with them to be quite difficult too - both before and after the purchase. If I were you, I don't think I'd be "concerned" - other than you obviously would like to get your J30 while there is still some summer left! I can say with no doubt in my mind they are a legit company and you WILL get the top you ordered. They just don't communicate well.

That top is the best thing I've done to my Jeep. Think I'll head out tomorrow and go camping!

I suppose this is all better than where I bought my Mitsu. I would pull into to the place I bought and the manager would be yelling over his shoulder that there is no warranty on it as he ran off into the shop. All I wanted was some new cabinet latches I couldn't find in my town.
