What to look for when checking out a dual sport (XR600R)?

Hi everyone,

I've been bitten by the adventure touring bug.

I'm interested in beefing up an XR600R for a long distance trip through central and south america.

I saw this listing on CL:

I plan on checking it out later this week. Are there specific things I should make sure and look for to ensure it's a quality ride?

Thanks so much!

An XR600 would be a great choice for a long adventure ride. Super reliable, lots of torque and mechanically simple.

A few known issues:

Swing arm pivot bolt can seize up if not lubiricated periodically
Headset bearings can do the same
Subframe is not built to carry heavy loads, but an easily be reinforced.

If this bike is indeed a well maintained, street legal and low mileage late model XR600, then the asking price is reasonable.

Good luck.
