I am placing an order for an Overland trailer and would like to hear your comments on the above sizes. Sleeping sifeways or sleeping from back to front?
Kinda depends on what your towing with width of the tow rig. And how technical you'r thinking of going on the dirt.
I really like the narrow width of my 4x6. 5x8 would seem like a fantastic size. 6ft wide starts to suck. My boat was max 8.5 which had lots of very tense driving in narrow lanes and heavy traffic. I had to watch for people crowding the line. Taking a mirror off someones car was a real posibility. 6ft wide can also be tight parking during road trips.
For me 5ft wide would be the ideal max width. And 8ft would really offer lots of options, dirt bike easy, 6 ft bunks easy, small shelving up front..
Nice . I would think sleeping sideways would be more efficient in using the space.
The way that most campers allow transverse sleeping is by extending over the wheel wells. In the examples you've shown, the stated width is between the wheels and not full width of outside to outside. Also, even 6' wide isn't 6' inside the trailer.
With either width trailer, you could install a weather-proof box above the fender, seal it to the trailer, and cut out the back giving your feet some place to go. Inside, the sleeping platform would have to be elevated but I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue as it would be storage, which you want low anyway. This might require rotating the window to gain enough vertical space. Talk to the manufacturer. Maybe they would know better about the impact to their structure.
