2005 Tundra diff breather relocation

So my truck is in the shop right now. My rear axle seals are leaking due to a clogged diff breather. Enough of that says I, so when I get the truck back I plan to relocate
my diff breather.

My plan is to run 1/4" or 3/8" fuel line from the breather up to the fuel filler port and have the breather inside there next to my filler cap. My second choice is running it up and having it come out behind the taillight inside the housing.

Is there any reason this couldn't work? Should I be ordering up a different union and breather union than what comes factory?

When I do it, I'll start a build thread and post pictures of my how-to. I'm also planning to disable the TPMS so I'll post that in there as well.

For a good barb use Nissan part number 38323-C6010. It is decently long and correct threads. I ran mine to behind the tail light but gas door would work too. I believe it's 1/4" but not 100% sure. Just be sure to leave slack for the rear diff to droop. Some people also put a filter on the end but I personally didn't.

Good to know, thanks. I'll call the Nissan dealer on monday and order up the part.

I'm thinking I should probably do the front diff as well. I'm not yet sure where I'd run that one to. I'll have to look when I get my truck back.

Front diff is already routed into the engine bay. Look for two breather tube tops on the driver's side of the bay near the shock mount.

I was going to raise mine higher. I don't like how they get soaked every puddle I drive through. I'll be moving them up to the firewall.

Anyone put thought to the transfer case and/or transmission?

That's a good idea. I'll look into that when I get under my truck. I should have it back tomorrow evening, but likely won't have time to even look at it until next weekend unfortunately.

The Nissan 38323-C6010 is 3/16” Barb. Here's a good picture of some of the breather barbs.
And for reference:
Toyota 90930-03136: 5/16” Barb
Toyota 90930-03031: M10 x 1.00 Thread Pitch
Toyota 90404-51319: M10 x 1.00 Thread Pitch, 3/8” Barb
Toyota 90404-51026: M10 x 1.00 Thread Pitch, 1/4” Barb

I've seen that picture before, but never seen one with bar sizes. Very helpful, thanks.

That's a great help, thank you! I got my truck back today and as soon as I got home I slid underneath to asses their work and to check out the breather. My breather had been clogged, hence the leaking axle seals. They put a new breather on. The 90930-03031 looks to be the same as the one they installed. Once I pull it out, and installed the new barb and run my hose, is there a filter I should mount on the other end?

Sorry for the newb questions, I'm a tradesman but not a mechanic and have limited automotive experience. This truck is my chance to have a guinea pig so to speak to build these skills.

I used Toyota Part#90404-51319 union for the axle. Used fuel line and ziptied it behind the tail light. Used Toyota Part #90930-03136 breather on the end. First mod I did. Under $20.00 total.
