1993 Camel Trophy 200TDI

So about a month ago, I stumbled upon a local listing for a discovery diesel. I currently own a RRC with 230,000 miles and enjoy driving it every day! but i was looking for another off road toy to play with. The discovery had the paint scheme of a camel trophy disco and I thought it was fake....but Boy, was I wrong. So I jumped on it and I found a pretty nice but rough gem in the desert. *I'm still doing some research, but I will let you do some deciphering for yourself. *All I do know, is that this is a real CT truck and that it was being flat towed (by tom collins?)when trailering truck was in an accident. *The truck that was trailering it hit black ice and flipped. *The word is, possibly the winning truck of 1993 Malaysia and/or training truck. The passenger side slid and was cosmetically damaged. *I found it from an older gentleman in the Colorado desert who picked it up from the original owner after this accident. *I have documentation all the way from Land Rover Of USA in 1999 where it was sold as an offroad vehicle only and did not meet DOT to none other than Webb Arnold. I'm also waiting on a Heritage certificate and technical data sheet. *It has 17,474 km on the dash and had a broken caliper, which has been fixed.

Update: The windshield has been replaced with lexan for now, and is 95% water tight. Also, has been confirmed to be the winning truck from Tom Collins!

Update: The disco has been legally sold.

Update 1-12-2018: The pictures have been down for a while due to Photobucket's P-500 BullSh*t, but I recently updated them again for future reference. This took a while but well worth it.

I think it is a legit Camel Trophy Truck. I heard that the legit trucks had roll down windows in the front and power windows in the rear. That way the occupants could escape if needed. Also they didn't come with A/C.

Nice find! Good luck getting it sorted out. Looks like she has been run hard and put up wet.

wow that may be the toughest 17k miles ever! What an awesome piece of history! (at least automotive history) Congrats!

This is an awesome truck. I happened to stumble upon it while walking through Telluride last weekend and had to check it out. His RRC is beautiful as well. Best of luck on this project!

I honestly believe this was Tom Collins personal truck sold years ago. I may be able to put you in touch with him to find out (let me know).
That is a sweet piece of history. Restoration is one of those 'ify' things, as it carries with it so much patina right now that on one hand, you'd love to see it restored, and on the other, you would like to see it in a Land Rover museum somewhere just as it is!

Great find and GREAT price you scored it for!
