Default $5 gas

It's time to close the "$4 gas" thread and start a new thread, unfortunately called "$5 gas." Diesel is selling for close to $5 already, and prices for all refined petroleum products are heading higher.

This thread is for your comments about how rising gas prices are affecting you, and what you're doing to cope.

This thread is NOT the place to have political discussions about who's at fault for high prices, or possible macroeconomic policies that might deal effectively with the situation. We all have opinions about this, but please take political discussions elsewhere. Thanks.

not so much because i cant afford the gas.. but to avoid contributing to the oil companies record profits as much as possible, even though i work for them.

I bought a KTM Adventure 950 to improve my commute and save gas but so far I have only reached one of the 2 goals...I am getting about 20 mpg in town....

I'm bummed about this fuel problem, but it also opens some doors. A couple of our trips have been modified to include less driving. That isn't always a bad thing.

My vacationing future will look a lot more like this:

I'll be using the Rover to access cool places, then offload my two wheeled escape pod for a couple days.

Here's a link to the Department of Energy's compilation of fuel prices around the country. The numbers are updated on Mondays.

http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/gdu/gasdiesel.asp

This week's report shows the average price for gasoline in California is $4.24, up 14% compared to last week, and up 86% from a year ago. Ouch!

As if the '$4 gas' thread wasn't depressing enough,
now you've started a '$5 gas'.
I started biking to work, not 'vroom-vroom' but 'hoof-hoof'!
Its only 5miles each way, so even worst case @10mpg its only $4 a day, but the money 'saved' is going to pay for gas on family camping trips this summer.
Why X fun memory making times with the kids so I can be all comfy on the drive to work?
I do get some funny looks though from the 'in-training' bikers as I usually have coffee in one hand and a smoke in the other.

i would love to pedal to work but its just not a good route,,,, mostly the gas prices have cut back on impulse w/e trips,,, its not all bad though, i am getting things done around the house.

i thought about getting another motorbike, but really unless its a small bike or scooter i'm not gonna save $$, so i drive the soycruiser a little more, 5,500 lbs on 37" tires getting 25MPG and paid for,,, thats not bad.

All of those Santa Monica college kids that park up my street every day are finally coming in handy.
