I just found some old pictures of kayaking around Los Angeles and Southern California. Many of the pictures had received some water damage from improper storage but you can still get the gist of it. Most of the pictures were taken in the mid 1990's as you can tell by the boats and the short shorts:)
The pictures ar of:
Big Tujunga Canyon Narrows
West Fork of the San Gabriel River
Mill Creek Narrows, a tributary to Big Tujunga
Sespe Creek
Piru Creek
As I find more pictures I will post them.
I wanted to let people know that adventure lurks at your back door, you just have to think outside the box.
Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing.
FWIW- I grew up exploring around both Sespe and Piru. My wife's great-grandmother died last year at the age of 101. She moved to Piru as an infant (100 years ago!). My in-laws have some amazing historical photos of the area. Good stuff.

LOL. That trip was on Sespe Creek. It was day 2 of a 4 day trip. My dad who worked at Air Ops decided to come check up on us and bring us some Kentucky Fried Chicken. Doesn't that happen to everyone? He was just being a concerned dad. That is me on the right and a fireman I work with on the left. That was a fantastic trip, condors, bear, deer and KFC.

Yep, I have kayaked from Alamo Mtn rd. where the road crosses Piru down to Pyramid Lake. I have also kayaked from just below Pyramid Lake 15 miles down into Piru Lake. The Pyramid to Piru section is absolutely remote and beautiful.

Did he let you use it as a shuttle vehicle? That would be rad.

Not on that trip. Lets just say on another Sespe trip a pilot needed to log some hours for practice and they just happened to be going buy my house:p This is purely hypothetical of course;)

Just a bump to let any creekers out there know that local creeks are up and running. Middle Piru is in shape and should be good. Sespe is also up.

It's been a while since I have done any serious boating and my head is not where it used to be as far as boating goes. If you are willing to suffer an old boater I would be more than happy to run some of these easier creeks when you get better.

For what its worth, I'm in working in socal for a couple of weeks and I brought my playboat with me (since creekboats don't fit so well in rental cars) so if anybody wants to paddle this weekend I'm game. Its shorty weather, too, compared to Boston.

It's not California, but I've been paddling for the past couple of weeks in AZ. It's been amazing!! Just watching the water levels it's so good to see the majority of the American Whitewater AZ river page be GREEN!!! It's going to be a great spring. The Salt River watershed is at over 200% the normal snowpack for this time of year. WOOHOO!!
Kinda stoked,

Just bought a Yukon Yak. I'll be using it this spring on the Escalante River if the flows cooperate.

No worries, let me know when your feeling better. The East and West Forks of the San Gabriel are fun easy runs and should be runnable for some time. When the temps warm up these two rivers are fun afternoon runs.
