Any JK owners out there who have added gauges? I kind of like to monitor the oil pressure and battery, I am getting the Hard Rock Sport Cage so I can mount a gauge pod on it.
Thanks,
Steve

Check this site.

There are a bunch of guys who have added aux gauges to their JKs.

Thanks for the info, it was good to read about them. I am still at a loss as how to procede, the Scan Gauge is a great idea as are the gauges.

I'm waiting on scangauge to have tranny temp for the JK. They told me 2 months ago that it would be about 2 months. I should e-mail them again and check.

Which company are you talking about? I went to a JK site and found two really good sites for prices, I am going to see if 4WD will beat them on a front bumper..

which gauges are you looking at, steve - just curious...
thx

Sven,
Temp, battery and oil pressure. I am headed to the dealership today and will speak with a tech to see if he has any ideas.

let me know how it goes, please. and of course some pics :-)

Sven,
As soon as I know anything you will also know. I just installed my CB antenna and cannister skid, can't believe there is almost no protection. I am finding a lot of JK parts are backordered, most into August. At least I can save a few $$$ for gas.

:-)))))
i also wanted to add a second battery but in the diesel there's no space. i had a hard time with the compressor :-)

Guess we are both a bit lucky, more $$ to save for a rainy day.
I just got back from talking with the tech, he had some info but nothing really earth shattering. First he did say that since these new ones have so many modules great care has to be taken when adding to the system because the computer could read a change in the voltage and totally go hay wire. He also did agree that if something could be piggy backed onto the sensor it probably would not have any adverse reaction. I was thinking for the oil pressure that might work if there is such an animal that you could get like a Y or piggy backed with the add on before the stock. Sure wish someone has done this and would put it to word and picture. I went to 2 JK sites and there was a lot of talk but nothing really to read about or see.

Here is what I have found out... Auto Meter makes gauges and pods, I found out that the threads for the oil sending unit are 1/8 as are the threads on the Auto Meter units. I will see what the sending unit for temp is in a few days, I have found gauges and individual pods at Auto Meter. Summit Racing has them as do others, check out Aunto Meter web site for dealers and pricing. I found three gauges and pods for @$235, I will need a "T" fitting so I can keep the OE senders also as I was told that the change in voltage could throw the computer into a tizzy. I sure hope this works as I feel at a loss with no real gauges, I also am mounting them to the Sport Cage I have ordered so that will take away the drilling holes problem for me.

because the computer could read a change
i found out that pretty much anything i want to do is hindered by the damn computer.
i wanted toadd a switch to the diesel pump (theft control). doesn't work because the comp. will save an (supposedly) unerasable error.
well, well,we'll see :-)
even adding the turn signals in the ARB bar is very complicated as to not disturbe the comp...

I hear you, wish we could go back to the simple days when it was easy to work on an engine.
I think I have decided to go with the Scan Gauge II and maybe a separate oil gauge. I am going to contact Scan Gauge and see if there is a way to monitor oil pressure.

The ScanguageII works great IMO. I guess I'm curious as to why you feel you need to supplement the factory oil guage Steve. Granted it is filtered by the computer but other than the ocassional sender that goes south, my experience is that is is a fairly reliable indicator....as are most of the guages in a TJ. We've done enough mechanical guage testing on my rig that I am rather convinced that the computer for the most part, indicates enough data and reliably so as to provide us with a good decision making construct on engine and system vitals.

I don't think the JK's came with an oil gauge, just an idiot light

As Roadkill says my JK has only an idiot light for the oil, it has a temp gauge but no voltmeter. If the Scan Gauge II had oil pressure I would be in 7th heaven. My LJ had gauges and I was a happy camper and soon I will be if I can just get my stuff together. I really like the Scan Gauge II and I will most likely end up with it.
LuisJG, thanks for the info, I will read the write up and see if they say anything about connecting. I want to mount them to the sport cage so I will have to check it all out.
Thanks to all,
Steve

When did you get a JK? I thought you had a LJ? Maybe I'm just getting old...wait a minute, I AM old LOL. Sorry for the confusion Steve.

Sorry to inform you that getting old has nothing to do with memory and the lack of it.. I am a perfect example of that, I lost mine many eons ago..
I picked her up on the 14th,a Rubicon 2 door in the dark green, 6 speed and some bells and whistles. I could not believe the lack of skids on it so the first purchase was skids. Of course since I found a winch on sale I was forced to order that and of course a small lift along with the ACOS. I had them on the LJ and absolutely loved them, helped with the trailer as well as coming off obstacles.. Bumpers will be next payday, I was turned on to a couple great sites for items and prices were great too.

Finally a solution to the gauges for me. I contacted a man on another site who had done this, he used an oil pressure / temperature adapter plate. He got his on E-Bay but I have found other sites. This adapter goes on between the block and the filter and it has two 3/8 threaded openings for sending units. I am going to get one of these and a gauge from Auto Meter as well as a Scan Gauge II for the other items I want to track. I shall post pictures when I complete this if you desire.

Well, mission completed I got the oil pressure gauge in and it works, the adapter was not difficult once I tightened it to the block. Working under the JK is easy as the fan is electric and there is a lot of room between the engine and radiator / fan.
I hope you can understand the pictures, if not let me know.
