As in a Chevy Astro mini-van that has been converted?
Don't believe I've ever seen those discussed on this site.

Tiger motor homes where built by Provans used Astro's as a platform from the early 1985's till GM stopped building the Astro's.The GT's where pop-up versions and the XL versions are hard tops. With the 4.3 V6 they are know for 16 mpg which is generally unheard of in motor homes. The ref listing is now at $16,500 and out of range for me.I am looking for a LX one in any condition that needs restoring.Gary

There's an MSN Group for those http://groups.msn.com/TigerMotorhomeOwners/stuffforsale.msnw if you don't find what you're looking for in their classifieds (usually in good condition, on the pricey side), probably one of the goup members could steer you toward one they know of that needs TLC.
My parents owned a 2wd pop up version, see my post #5 here http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10162 plus later in that thread we were kicking around the mods for AWD Astro vans. Another really helpful thread on modding AWD Astros is here, if you want to get into that: http://expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12681

Yep-I am on TigerMotorOwners on MSN.Listed a wanted thread there as well.
That strongest site for Astro/Safari mods is Astrosafarivans.com.I am currently involved in a V8 swap where I bought a 1989 Astro that has a 1996 TBI 350 installed and has a bad 700R4 tranny.I am using the van as a donor for another Astro I have which is a 1985 high top cargo. The donor is in Cinnci and I need to get it back to Roch NY-rebuild the tranny-drive for awhile to ck it out and then do the swap.Astrosafarivans has a camping section too.If you go to the site,ck out a members van with a user name of LiftedAWDAstro.5" lift with a straight axle-two speed transfere case-Danas front and back-hydro wench, the mods for that just goes on and on.He has used that for off road wheeling for yrs and is very knowledgeable about 4 x 4 mods to Astro's.

Yep,"T Low" is a member too of the web site Astrosafarivans.com that I am apart of.Been with them over a yr 1/2.You can do lots with the Astro vans and I would think the same holds true for the XL MH's.Hehe-one member lifted his 5 1/2" and swaped in a ram jet BBC 502 running AWD.

Great, nothing beats having an extensive network. l've bookmarked the astrosafarivans.org forums, thanks. Much as I like my Chalet, my ultimate goal is to have the perfect offroad camper to suit my tastes, and perhaps an Astro 4x4 with a Westfalia-inspired custom roof is a way to go to accomplish what I want for size & maneuverability - looks like a guy in Germany did that to his Land Cruiser here http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ronaldbrunner.ch%2Fpr ojekte%2Fhdj100.htm&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8
Astro,
If you are still looking, I just saw one advertised in the Phoenix area.
I was passing through NM, and spotted it when thumbing through the RV Trader for NM and AZ.
I didn't buy the mag because I assumed I could search for it online. Unfortunately, when I searched RV Trader online for Tiger, nothing showed up.
If you are still looking for one, maybe someone in the NM or AZ areas could get the contact # for you.

One in the Reno area Craigslist, 91 Tiger XL AWD Provan - $6850 http://reno.craigslist.org/rvs/623493884.html I also copied the text in case the link expires before than you can look at it. On Wednesday, I'll check out the RV Trader mag - sheer force of habit, I tend not to look for anything newer than '77 in it....

...Or the Fry's Stores are putting 'em in hot off the presses, I'd swear the date at the top of the cover said 11th thru 17th.... but it could have said "March", too...somedays I'm not sure of anything I see....

Sorry, I guess I assumed everyone know about the 7/11 (http://www.7-eleven.com/) convenience stores. I think that the Fry's that 77Blazerchalet was reffering to is the Fry's electronics store chain. (http://www.outpost.com/) Both Fry's and 7/11 sell RV Trader magazine.
RV trader is a newprint magazine that lists RVs for sale. They also have an online presence (http://www.rvtrader.com/index.php). They have local editions all over the country. They publish Car Trader, Truck Trader, Boat Trader, and the like.
I think 77Blazerchalet posted that last picture in jest, to illustrate his last statement

I was ref'ed to a listing in Reno for a XL.They are asking $6,850 for it and I still believe I can find one cheaper than that.(Call me crazy,but....)So the search continues.Whatever help you good folks can provide I say thanks in advance.

Gary,
I'll keep my eye out, but I've only stumbled on a few.
Matter if fact, I only found out about the Provan Astros about a year ago when a GT came up on the Austin area craigslist. I think the guy was asking about $3500 for it. I really wanted to buy it as a project, but we couldn't afford it, and it really wouldn't be suitable for a family of four, anyway. Didn't keep me from wanting it. I know he didn't sell it then, because I saw it listed again several months later. Don't know if he sold it the second time around.

Lynn,
I corrected myself by saying the XL's are the model that are hard top motor homes. The GT's are pop-up style campers.I want a XL.In part the reason why they are so desired is the 16 mpg while still having some room to tow.For me,if I found one, it would be part of a two set-up fleamarket vendor operation where it would tow my smaller vendor trailer to single date markets while my other RV and dual 12' trailer stayed at multi date market. The current van planned in place of a XL is a 1985 high top Astro(nicknamed "Ole Yellar") that I am in the process of converting a V8 350 TBI Chevy for it.
Talk to ya soon,
Gar

..I KNOW WHERE YOU CAN FIND ONE FOR $1,700.. Bait and switch scam. I promptly sent my money and they sent a deed to the Brooklyn Bridge. Idiots' order processing department is messed up, and I didn't want any more problematic real estate, I just wanted a cheap camper. Oh, well. I'll sell it at a loss just to get it off my hands, if any of you want it. $1,000.
