I completed my Jeep Scrambler pop-top project this afternoon. Here are a few pictures (notice the Jeep front end is missing. The frame repair is next).

Don't be a tease man. Tell us more! Is that a VW top?

that's cool man:beer:

why did you make it stick out back instead of scooting forward so it's all on the roof area?

Awesome, I'd been looking foward to seeing that one.

I agree with 4lo about it looking better further foward, but I can imagine you wanting to mount it further back to center the weight of it over your rack.

Yes. The pop-top started as an American competitor to the Westfalia VW camper conversions called Country Home Campers. Here is an example...

http://www.countryhomescampers.com/graphics/preowned/assad2/poptopup.jpg

The reason for overhanging the pop-top off the back is 3 fold:

1. After seeing taco that rolled in baja a few years ago with a roof rack that had a large cantilevered section over the cab (un-supported in the front), and how badly it CRUSHED the cab (BLOOD EVERYWHERE), I didn't want more than 12" of cantilever in front of my rollcage / Rack.

2. The way the pop-top is possitioned in the rear makes it so the I climb in to bed from the tailgate and I don't have move gear in the cargo bed to get into the human bed.

3. I imagine that most of my cooking in going to be on the tailgate, and the pop-top will provide rain and sun cover.

On a slightly unrelated note, how do you like the LiteDOT's that I see there in the last pic?

Now how cool is that!

What controls dust ingress (there appears to be a sliding entry point)?

They're ok, I like that they are not as bulbus as the orginal tail lights.

I'm going to have zippered hatch cover stitched up out of ballistic nylon.

I think I'll get the frame repaired first (will need to pull motor and body), then take the Scrambler on a shake down adventure and see if there might other stuff I'll want to stitch up at the same time (like a roll down privicy curtains).
