Buyer's Guide: Auxiliary Fuel Tanks
There comes a point in the travels of every overlander where they realize having more fuel isn't necessarily a bad thing. Whether you're about to cross a border into a country with incredibly high fuel prices, or you're traversing the Canning-Stock Route in Australia, where refueling simply isn't an option—an auxiliary fuel tank can be a useful tool. Depending on your vehicle, there’s like an option for increasing your fuel capacity and mileage. We’ve compiled a list with some industry leaders, feel free to email us suggestions if we’ve missed a couple.
Aero Enterprises specializes in manufacturing auxiliary and replacement gas and diesel tanks. Models are available for Jeep, Dodge, GMC, Ford, Chevy, and International Scout, as well as custom builds (for diesel only).
American Expedition Vehicles (AEV)
Focusing mainly on the new Jeep JK Wrangler, but also providing products for other Jeep models, AEV is a 4WD accessories manufacturer that provides parts with OEM-like fitment and quality. They are perhaps best known for their V8 Hemi conversions and complete vehicle conversion kits such as the Brute. AEV produces bumpers, racks, suspension systems, body parts and more.
Brown Davis Automotive is based in Melbourne Australia and manufactures a wide range of specialist products for the automotive industry. Their line of long range auxiliary and replacement fuel tanks are designed to give maximum fuel capacity without affecting ground clearance and ramp over/departure angle, whilst being exceptionally strong against the most rigorous of conditions. GenRight, based out of Southern California, offers a complete line of aftermarket Jeep products including both competition and extended range fuel tanks.
Long Range Automotive
Long Range Automotive has been manufacturing and supplying auxiliary and long range fuel tanks since 1989. Long Range Automotive uses the latest technology to design long range fuel tanks that are the most suitable shape for a specific vehicle. Precision CAD/CAM drawings are produced for all petrol tanks and water tanks to ensure they fit properly into the selected location.

The Long Ranger manufactures auxiliary and replacement fuel tanks from their Barnsley, Australia factory.
Man-A-Fre out of Southern California offers a comprehensive list of accessories available for the Toyota Land Cruiser line, and develops new products to improve the on/off-road driving experience.
ORC Off Road Exclusiv
In addition to their other accessories for 4x4s and campers, ORC Off Road Exclusiv out of Ostfildern, Germany, manufactures auxiliary fuel tanks for the petrol (gasoline) Gelandewagen.
Established over 20 years ago to tackle the problem of the Land Rovers rear door and spare wheel carrying system Safari-Equip have developed and grown to be one of the largest manufacturers of Land Rover accessories in the UK. Safari-Equip manufactures both replacement and auxiliary long range fuel tanks.
Titan Fuel Tanks
TITAN Fuel Tanks launched in 2003 to answer the frustration experienced by diesel truck owners, who, buying the latest and greatest diesel trucks found themselves spending too much time searching for the next diesel stop–and limited as to destination.
